Due to our natural inclinations, the addictions and disorders people claim are mostly self inflicted. In today's society of self driven pleasure seekers, we are no more than just sinners as the author plainly explained. And until we reconcile with God, our maker; we will wonder about and for most, a slow and painful destruction, led by the spirit of the air. The personal experience shared by the author was genuine as it relates to constant exposure of negativity and sin. Most people don't realize what is sin because they don't know any better. The scriptures cited in the book was perfect for it's application. This is not an ordinary book as it can lead to spiritual healing and self realization. Excellent narration by Trillian.

The space around mental illness is so crowded with opinions, experiences, studies and advice, it's hard to know where to begin when it comes to caring for individuals and creating boundaries for yourself. This book takes a bold stance in rounding out the conversation by giving faithful Christian readers the powerful guidance they need from scripture. Peninger uses The Message translation of the Bible to make her arguments as understandable and relatable as possible, unapologetically allowing the Word itself to drive home her points. Not only is the clarity helpful when boundaries are called for, compassion and love are essential in effectively serving the mentally ill and the scriptures are rich with such instruction. I especially loved Chapter 9 which is all about the work we, as Christians, are called to do. It's not just about the outward service, it's about the inward sanctification process. The challenges, and challenging people, in our lives aren't just there for us to serve or overcome. They are for our own good and growth. Embracing this concept, as the book instructs, not only helps us accomplish our mission, it brings glory to the only one who can truly heal and save, Jesus Christ.
