Welcome to Grand Life Apartments...

Soon-to-be-retired Kamala spends her days counting down to her daughter's annual visits from abroad.

Thirty-two-year-old engineer, Revathi, is frequently reminded by her mother that she's fast reaching her expiry date in the arranged-marriage market.

And heartbroken Jason is here because he's running away - from London, and from his past.

With nothing in common, they are united only by a love - and a need - for where they live. So when a developer threatens to demolish everything they know, they come together to save their beloved home...

I loved this book and it’s characters. It was gentle but with some important topics ventured into and I finished the book with the characters feeling like friends. A perfect escape that I’m sure I’ll be revisiting soon :)

Not my usual choice of book as my preference is to listen to thrillers/crime novels but I wanted something different and this was recommended to me. It took a couple of chapters for me to get into the slower pace of this book but once in I was involved in the characters’ lives and customs. Very well written and I could imagine all the different scenes from the descriptions given. Wonderfully engaging.

Mum is just perfect. She is so an Indian Mum. Wanting her daughter married to her choice. The problems solved by paying money at the temple and taking flowers. The real life problems of loosing their home. This community is so addictive. Recommended to many friends. I loved it

Such a charming book with characters that felt like friends. Strong female characters and a gentle handling of some quite important issues. I may listen again as I initially struggled to engage with the narrator but as the book went on I did and realised she was perfect for the story. Highly recommend

Setting depicted very well and the main characters all came across as real. Pace never felt slow or rushed, allowing the plot to develop naturally. This book is significantly different from the genres I usually read, but I never felt like giving up on it. Narration very good.

Something different. Relaxed pace. Interesting characters.
