About this listen

Three delinquent monsters with fearsome powers. One girl made of pure sunshine. Can she save this team of misfits?

My past? Let's just pretend it never happened. All I want is to spread enough joy to make up for the pain I've caused.

So it'd be nice if my unexplainable powers would stop going haywire.

When I start blitzing my fellow monsters as well as mortals, the authorities of the supernatural world give me a final chance to avoid banishment.

I’ve got to join three monstrous criminals on a dangerous mission no one wants to take. Strange creatures are attacking innocent humans, and we have to stop their rampage.

It’s up to me, a frigid winter fae, a brutal basilisk shifter, and a chaotic kitsune to figure out what’s gone wrong—and fix it. Which would be a lot easier if my teammates didn’t see me as a ditzy pipsqueak.

And if they weren’t so distractingly, deliciously handsome.

Um, don’t tell them I said that part.

I’m sure my cheerful optimism will win them over so we can get home in one piece. That is, as long as I don’t blow us all up along the way...

*Misfit Monsters is the first book in a new urban fantasy trilogy from bestselling author Eva Chase. If you love a sunshine-y heroine, hot dangerous monsters who'll soften only for her, and plenty of laughs, action, and steam, dive right in!*

If you need a Paranormal Reverse Harem that is instantly addictive, deeply fun, and packed with Found Family vibes... this is it! Eva Chase delivers a perfect blend of high-energy urban fantasy and a sizzling Why Choose romance.

The vibe is Ragtag Bunch of Misfits meets Grumpy/Sunshine on steroids. You've got a sweetheart heroine whose light is meant to heal and three brooding, dangerous, and devastatingly hot monsters who need her more than they let on. The chemistry in this forced proximity scenario is IRRESISTIBLE. The emotional journey of these outcasts finding their place and their pack is what hooked me instantly.

Absolutely loved this! 4.5 ⭐️

Audiobook review

The narrators did an excellent job, and I ADORE a dual narration book!

The characters were really brought to life and it was brilliant listening to them learn, adapt and grow. I loved just how varied all the 'monsters' were and how they all had different personality types-very high school style- b1tchy though.

I enjoyed the the yearning and why choose aspects, the spice was good but I wish it wasn't over so quickly, however im hoping that book two will host the main show.

The only bit I didnt care for too much was how easy and simple the bad guy was dealt with- again im hoping there is far more to it in the next book though!

I do recomend this to anyone who loves the main tropes of academy setting, why choose, monsters, yearning and angst, forbidden romance and forced proximity!

Fans of Carrie pulkenin will adore this!

fun and spicy great narrators!

The heroine is unlike anyone I’ve read before: fierce, flawed, and genuinely unforgettable. The foreshadowing and world-building were woven so effortlessly it felt like watching a master at work. The pacing, the tension, the emotion—everything hit just right. Chef’s kiss.

I adored every page of this book and honestly didn’t want it to end.

Eva Chase did it again—completely hooked me from page one!

I really liked the FMC Peri; Vanessa Moyen brings out her blend of optimism and naivety made her really endearing without every being too sickly sweet. Considering this is set in a reform school it was an interesting twist as I'd expected more of the usual tough as nails FMC. Instead she is a total golden retriever and I was here for it. I enjoyed how Peri's relationships with the MMCs are evolving at their own paces both during and out with the missions. Raze is my current favourite MMC and the development of his gentle giant side as well as seeing him open up to Peri had me rooting for him. Aiden Snow's Mirage though was my favourite performance; he really leans into the bright side of the character whilst also showing his underlying insecurities.

Its not too terrible a cliff-hanger which was a nice change of pace nor is the tone as dark as some of Chase's other series although there are darker moments in more than one of the characters past. This is a standalone in the Shadowkind universe and although you don't need to have read the other books (I haven't made it through all the previous series yet) I'd suggest the Shadowblood Souls series if you want a little more context on the reform school set up.

Standalone series in a shared universe
