About this listen
Summer 1918 and stylish lady detective Miss Isabel Hewitt is approached by a nervous young woman, Miss Rosalind Rafferty. She claims she is being terrorised by a ghost and is in fear of her life. She lives in a cottage on her late fiancé' Captain Reuben Gifford's family estate in Hickory Green Hertfordshire. Her maid, Margery died a couple of weeks before after being bitten by an unknown creature.
The doctor attending said it was natural causes but Rosalind is not convinced. The maid's mother has asked for a second opinion. Isabel agrees to travel to Hickory Green to investigate and asks her friend Doctor Anne Murray to examine the dead girl as she has not yet been buried. Anne cannot say for certain but suspects the girl was bitten by a Funnel-Web, a very dangerous Australian spider. But how is that possible in rural Hertfordshire?
If it is true, Isabel must locate the Funnel-Web before it bites anyone else. But there is a dark secret at the heart of the Gifford family, Can Isabel unravel that and hope it leads to the location of the deadly spider?
