It takes me less than a couple of minutes to fall asleep. When I wake up in the middle of the night though… this book has been like a dream. It’s taken 4 months to get through in 2 and 5 minute blocks before I fall asleep again and wake up with it still going 8 hours later.

It’s wonderful how Mildred changes and how Mr Wiggan does, ever so subtly.there are great set pieces. God bless Diana. Best of all are the meandering asides from the author to the reader about minuscule word choices and similar trivia, which really work to control the pacing.

I was really looking forward to listening to this book, but oh what a disappointment, boring and never really getting any where.

Adored this story, just wish more of the author‘s waffling interjections had been edited out - they do tend to get in the way of the momentum. Definitely buying the second book because I enjoy the plot and the characters. Narrator sounded like AI in the beginning - either the exaggerated diction or something to do with the sound processing, but eventually the plot takes over and you forget it.

I was recommended this book on Facebook and initially thought it looked like a children’s book but it is not. I enjoyed listening to Mildred growing into herself, and the narration is outstanding (because Zara is the best!) I’ve just downloaded the second one and am already looking forward to the third.
