About this listen

Winner of the Carnegie Prize 2011

‘War,’ says the Mayor, ‘at last.’ Three armies march on New Prentisstown, each one intent on destroying the others. Todd and Viola are caught in the middle, with no chance of escape. As the battles commence, how can they hope to stop the fighting? How can there ever be peace when they’re so hopelessly outnumbered? And if war makes monsters of men, what terrible choices await? But then a third voice breaks into the battle, one bent on revenge….

The electrifying finale to the award-winning Chaos Walking trilogy, Monsters of Men is a heart-stopping novel about power, survival, and the devastating realities of war.

Loved the story. Full of unexpected twists that made me gasp and react emotionally. Towards the end though, Todd got a bit annoying and whiny. Every minute shouting 'Viola'... made me shout back in annoyance. He even weaponised the *thought* of her name...*rolls eyes*.
The spackle and their noise though... fantastic idea. One can draw parallels with the immigrants/coloniser's story. The construction of the character of the mayor was also thoroughly enjoyable. Again, parallels can be drawn between the Mayor and Governor John Radcliffe from Pocahontas. Another thoroughly despicable character.

Loved this last book in the trilogy but not enough to read the prequel or the two subsequent books - I need a break from whiny Todd Hewett.

Great story. By the end, found Todd whiny. #Viola!

Loved the dramatics and the voices. It builds to the end and doesn't disappoint. The whole series is brilliant and this is my second time of listening to the trilogy and it hasn't disappointed. Listen to it!

Riveting to the end!
