Courtney

I’m just so exhausted—always living on the edge of desperation, one paycheck away from ruin.

But this new job…

It could be the fresh start I need.

It could change everything.

The contract is only for three months, but if I keep my head down, work hard, and prove myself, maybe I could stay longer.

Maybe I could make Black Mountain Lodge my home.

As I pull down the gravel drive, surrounded by the forest and mountains and bright blue skies, I feel something I haven’t felt in a while.

I feel hope.

Sterling

My new employee is late.

I’m already in a bad mood about having to train him, still salty about my old guy retiring on me.

But while I’m waiting, a woman pulls up my drive.

A woman straight from my damn dreams.

Curvy and pretty, looking at me with wide eyes framed with sooty lashes.

And suddenly, I’m no longer thinking about my late employee.

But then she opens her mouth and asks for me, introducing herself as Courtney, my new hire.

Courtney. Not Court, like the application said.

And I realize there’s been a mistake.

I can’t have this woman working here. Living on my property. Distracting me. I mean, my staff.

No. She can’t work for me. End of story.

Except she won’t leave. She even threatens to sue me.

Fine. If she won’t let me fire her before she even starts, then I’ll just have to make her leave on her own.

Fantastic duet narration

Erin Mallon is absolutely captivating as Courtney. She brings so much emotional nuance—every laugh, every bit of sass -every flicker of doubt or strength feels so real. Erin doesn’t just read Courtney—she becomes her. I felt like I was right there with her, feeling everything she felt. It made me love Courtney even more.

And then there’s Connor Crais… oh my god. His voice as Sterling? Pure melt. The way he captures Sterling’s ruggedness, protectiveness, and quiet vulnerability is unreal. Every time he said “Honey”, I swear my heart did a full-body sigh. That one word, in his voice, wrapped in that gruff tenderness? Changed the game for me. It’s soft, possessive, and completely addictive.

Listening to this audiobook felt like falling in love in slow motion. Erin and Connor are pure magic together—their chemistry radiates through every scene. It’s the kind of performance that lingers in your chest, makes you smile for no reason, and has you hitting replay A LOT!

Soo Hot!

This was my first SJ Tilly but I am going to add all her books to my tbr now! I loved this book!
Grumpy Sterling who falls for Courtney the moment he sees her but tries to scare her off with his grumpyness and independant Courtney who litterally falls for Sterlings hairy chest.
Their chemistry was insane!
And when he cared for her when she was sick, swoon!

The duet narration and short chapters were perfection, you could feel the tension between Sterling and his Courtney

Swoon

Decent storyline with a couple of twists. Loved the spice. Really well read by both narrators. I’ll definitely buy other books by the author now.
The short chapters were a bit odd. It would have worked better if the chapter numbers weren’t spoken. But that’s a very minor complaint and it didn’t spoil the overall experience of listening.

Enjoyable

Really fun and well written, the only thing which bothered me was the very short chapters which sometimes occur, which could have been a duet instead of chapters.

The story and book are great
