About this listen

4 short stories featuring the great detective himself…

How did a woman holding a pistol in her right hand manage to shoot herself in the left temple? What was the link between a ghost sighting and the disappearance of top secert military plans? How did the bullet that killed Sir Gervase shatter a mirror in another part of the room? And who destroyed the ‘eternal triangle’ of love involving renowned beauty, Valentine Chantry?

Hercule Poirot is faced with four mystifying cases – Murder in the Mews, The Incredible Theft, Dead Man’s Mirror and Triangle at Rhodes – each a miniature classic of characterisation, incident and suspense.

THREE GOOD TALES

Very entertaining and gripping short stories.
Hugh Fraser is reading the last three and I prefer him to Nigel Hawthorne (who does a good job but not as good as Hugh). I really enjoyed this Audible book.

Great stories

Nigel Hawthorne really ruins 'Murder in the Mews'. He is dreadful at doing voices/accents, especially Poirot. He can't even pronounce the name 'Hercule Poirot' correctly, which says it all really. Fortunately Nigel Hawthorne only narrates the first story in this collection and Hugh Fraser narrates the rest. Hugh Fraser's narration is brilliant as always. These stories are novellas - they are somewhere between a novel and short story, so they are considerably longer other Agatha Christie short stories. I really enjoyed them. Despite Nigel Hawthorne's narration, 'Murder in the Mews' is probably one of my favourite Poirot stories.

Nigel Hawthorne is dreadful

Only the first story is read by Nigel Hawthorne. Which is just as well, as, in my opinion, his Poirot characterisation is absolutely atrocious and at times the accent sounded more German than anything else. It was most distracting. Thankfully the other stories were read by the always-excellent Hugh Fraser.

The running order is as follows -

Murder in the Mews

The Incredible Theft

Dead Man's Mirror

Triangle at Rhodes

also includes Hugh Fraser
