About this listen

For years, Peyton has struggled to put her father's murder behind her, but her latest case brings it all back.

When two hookers are found with the mutilated body of a notorious gangbanger, Peyton and her partner, Marco, are pulled into a world of violence, sex, and drugs that might engulf all of San Francisco in a turf war.

And as Peyton comes to realize, sometimes the monsters we most fear are real.

My goodness! I loved listening to this book. I love series that allow you to have an intimate understanding of the characters. As such I would like to recommend the series, from the beginning. I have enjoyed how the characters have grown and developed through the various books and look forward to more.

ML Hamilton really knows how to balance the serious with the humourous. I found this book really sensitively handled. Peyton and Marco, the main characters, are Homicide detectives. They deal with really difficult, graphic cases with some really disturbing perpetrators. ML Hamilton somehow takes the edge of the gruesome without diluting the seriousness of the issues. I do not want to say more because I do not want to spoil it, but I will say this. I am committed to the characters, to the series and to the ML Hamilton and Kelley Hazen winning writer-performer combo. Kelley Hazen does not narrate the books. She performs them and she gives them texture beyond the written word.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Another fabulous book in this series!
