About this listen

Two cyclists die on the Somerset Levels, and the Exham bakery gets the blame. Libby Forest runs into danger as she sets out to solve the mystery, save the bakery and rescue her career, helped by Bear, the enormous Carpathian Sheepdog, Fuzzy, an aloof marmalade cat, and the handsome, secretive Max Ramshore.

Set in the coastal resort of Exham on Sea, Murder on the Levels features a cast of local characters, including Mandy the teenage Goth, her new boyfriend, Steve, Frank the baker, and Detective Sergeant Joe Ramshore, Max's estranged son. The green fields, rolling hills and sandy beaches of the West Country provide the perfect setting for crime, intrigue, and mystery.

I throughly enjoyed the storyline but just can't listen to the narrator, it spoils the entire book. Bitterly disappointed, which is such a shame considering I enjoyed the story and characters , it's just the annoying monotoned voice, why oh why did the author choose this narrator, such a shame and I just can't listen to any more of these books.

Narrator spoils the story

Unfortunately I’m finding this book a very difficult listen. The narrator has a monotone voice and doesn’t differentiate between characters sufficiently to allow me to understand who is saying what. For a short book, I’m spending more hours on this due to rewinding back than it would take to listen to a book twice this length.

Not good

My 2nd listen which I really enjoyed. Good storyline, good characters and great little twist at the end. Just a little wish that there could be a bit more differentiation between the characters voices but I would still recommend this listen nonetheless. About to download book 3……can’t wait.

Delightful

The narrator has such a monotone voice and this takes the joy out listening to the story.

Difficult to follow story

I really enjoy the Ham Hill mysteries written by the same author so thought I would give this one a try. Too many characters disconnected to the main ones, meandering story and no clues given for the reader to solve the whodunnit, meant I didn’t enjoy it as much. The narrator sounded bored and intonation was lacking compared to the other books. At times, it sounded as if she hadn’t read it beforehand with phrases read disjointedly. It’s a shame as I like the author and will still read or listen to the Ham Hill mysteries.

Not as good as author’s other stories
