About this listen

For the first time, rock music icon Gregg Allman, one of the founding members of The Allman Brothers Band, tells the full story of his life and career in My Cross to Bear. No subject is taboo, as one of the true giants of rock ’n’ roll opens up about his Georgia youth, his long struggle with substance abuse, his string of bad marriages (including his brief union with superstar Cher), the tragic death of brother Duane Allman, and life on the road in one of rock’s most legendary bands.

Having been a fan of the Allman Brothers, I was intrigued to hear this audio book. The book is thrilling and uncompromising in the coverage of Gregory's life. Fabulously written and so well described at every point. So many take away points too. Great book. The performance by Alan Light adds something to it's magic and seals the 100% gripping nature. Wholeheartedly recommend this wonderful book.

A great story beautifully read

An interesting rock n roll story. In fact more interesting than most as he along with other members of the Allman Brothers trailblazed a new progressive type of Southern music. He gives us insight into the difficulties in the music industry and the novelty and craziness of drug taking at tat time. Really the excesses of the hippy era. As an addict for much of his life , he’s an excellent example of how a hardened addict can become sober. However, I feel his ongoing criticism of Dickie Betts is rather uncalled for. In general, it’s a better read than most rock roll books.
