About this listen

A dark and addictive psychological thriller that will have you listening long into the night. Meet Josslyn and Alicia ... your new best friend and your worst enemy.

Josslyn is a mild-mannered vet who prefers animals to people. Alicia is a ruthless and psychotic killer. But there’s a problem … They are the same person.

When Josslyn finds a clue as to who Alicia really is, she sets out on a mission to discover the truth and hopefully get rid of the psychopath in her head before she kills again.

However, Alicia has her own agenda and isn’t afraid to mess things up for Josslyn. She wants control of their body and won’t rest until she gets her way.

Someone is stalking them and clearly knows more about them than they do. Will Josslyn and Alicia ever be able to see eye to eye and work together to overcome adversity?

My Dark Self is the first book in the My ... Self series, a gripping thriller series with a big difference ... the two main characters are one person. If you like fast-paced psychological thrillers with plenty of twists and turns and witty banter, then you’ll love this dramatic series from Jessica Huntley.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
(Audiobook Edition) - apologies, I listened to this a couple months back and completely forgot to leave my reviews.

I’m so glad I came across this author several months back because each time I read their books, I enjoy them so much!
Your made to question the questions, made to take double takes and have a moment to think what you’ve just read.
Anything psychological in my eyes is worth a read, and My Dark Self does NOT disappoint!
Josslyn & Alicia are the same person, yep you heard that right, 2 people - 1 body.
You’re taken on a rollercoaster of a ride with Josslyn & her inner monologue coming from Alicia.

Well narrated, well detailed plot and as always an all round brilliant read from the author! Thank you for having me adv listen to My Dark Self.

Loved the narration from Charlie Albers

This book is one dark and twisted thriller, you feel like you are there. Amazing characters that will make you feel such emotions, from doing dark and unspeakable pain to humour.
We have great twists and turns and I didn’t see the end of the story.

3.5 ⭐ rounded to 4
This was a surprising thriller with an underlying dark theme that I very much enjoyed!

Loved the narration by Charlie Albers, really acting the book and embracing the two main characters Josslyn and Alicia very well. I have to say that I like the whole idea of these two characters, especially because as the story develops there are several surprises here and there. And because of the various twists within, I was able to enjoy the story, even if I found Josslyn so annoying, much preferring Alicia (what does that say about me?) and not really caring about the romance going on in parallel.

Although I wasn’t surprised by the solution to the thriller, I was surprised by one of the twists at the end which left me stunned! Also, as the author leaves the reader with a big cliffhanger, I’m now curious to see how the situation develops between the two protagonists.
I recommend this for fans of dark thrillers with weird plots and parallel storylines.

Thanks to the author and Booksprout for the opportunity to listen to it and this is my honest opinion.

Good thriller with several plotlines and twists

This book uses a known psychiatric condition and weaves it into the tale told from two viewpoints at different phases. It strays into the improbable with a multiple birth being invoked and compounded by a rare condition. There is also a plot hole which renders the resolution implausible. These are reasons I haven't given the full five stars for the story. It is, however, a compelling narrative with several twists and physical as well as moral jeopardy for the main characters. An interesting listen.

The narrator does a good job of differentiating the main female characters and mainly consistent with the male characters, but less well differentiated. There were some inconsistencies in pronunciation, especially of a particular technical term central to the plot, so appearing many times.
