Summary

The perfect way for us to live. The perfect way for him to hide…

My husband Matt and I are an ordinary married couple in every way but one. At the end of each day, we return to our own homes and our own spaces. Some people think this arrangement is odd, but for us it's perfect.

But beyond the fairy lights I string at my window, darkness is pressing in. Two local women have gone missing, and I don't want to be alone. With Matt away for work, I find comfort in chatting to my new neighbour Brenda, who drops in regularly with casseroles and groceries.

Sipping our coffees, looking out of my kitchen window, I soon notice how observant Brenda is. So when she tells me that perhaps my husband isn't simply working late, something cold takes root. I think of Matt's recent vague tone, the way he brushes off my questions. Brenda thinks I should pop by when Matt's not at home. Just to check everything's as it should be.

I should be able to trust the man I married. But when I do go through my husband's things, I discover that our perfect living arrangement is hiding a shocking secret…

Just what the title says. I did not have patience to go beyond the first few chapters - the pace is unbearable.

Slow, boring and predictable

The twist in the book was quite predictable and ending was slightly farfetched and thought it could be explaining better

Very good audio performance

this is the first k l slater book that has seriously disappointed me I've listened to them all and always given top marks but this one really left me sad.
First of all I really liked matt a lot I felt his heart was always in the right place n he loved Silvi so the affair being true was just bonkers I kept thinking no there will be some reason why he said that it won't be true but it was and so they didnt end up together. Matt would never have cheated but certainly not with someone so self obsessed and he wasnt particularly upset when she died n he kept saying it was a one night stand but the police said they had multiple videos and silvi never talked to him about this to clear it up.
The other thing is I knew who they would say the murder was and silvi knew it wasnt matt and protected him so why then would he tell her to stay in the room when he knew he'd had an affair n why would she leave him the whole thing makes no sense.
Finally, Jess being a bully came out of left field. It didnt surprise me about her friend but her made no sense n nothing else was talked about on that front which was odd.
All in all I was left confused, asking questions and hugely disappointed.

very disappointed spoiler

A bit slow in parts, voices a bit irritating, but a good story. Kept me listening till the end. Result!

Love, betrayal, twists in the plot - and the twisted minds of perfectly ‘nice’ people.
