Summary

She’s looking for love. I know the perfect man. My husband.

To the rest of the world, he’s charming, delightful Freddie. No one knows what he’s really like behind closed doors.

And how can I ever escape a man everyone loves?

Over dinner I say, casually, carefully, ‘My friend Cat is looking for a date.’ I pass him a picture. Ask if he knows anyone.

I’m betting Freddie will see young, pretty Cat and decide to meet her himself. He’ll never know that I’m pulling the strings. And then, finally, the world will see exactly what kind of man I married.

But what I don’t know is that Cat came into my life for a reason. She isn’t looking for love. She has her own plans.

And the clever trap I set for my husband could burn my whole world down…

A completely gripping psychological thriller about love, marriage, secrets and revenge that will leave you gasping at the twists. Perfect for fans of Lucy Foley, Gillian Flynn and Claire Douglas.

I like Tamsin Kennard as a narrator. In this book she made each character easy to identify- even the men! very well done by both author and narrator.

the twist authentic end!

I’ve read all but 2 of S. E. Lynes’ novels; she’s my favourite contemporary novelist with more 5 star novels than any other author (and I very rarely bestow 5 stars - I gave none last year).

Having not actually read a book of hers for a long while, I’d managed to forget just how incredible at writing Lynes is.

Matchmaker is absolutely beautiful and utterly mesmeric. Every sentence is crafted perfectly.

The characters are so real, and the development of the two protagonists as the novel progresses is so well handled.

Cat and Megan’s awkward exchange at their first meeting was so resonate with me as someone who can be socially awkward, especially in a new work environment! The twists throughout the novel are brilliant and it’s almost impossible to explain to someone who hasn’t read/listened to this novel! Very clever stuff. I did actually manage to figure out one of the many twists which doesn’t happen very often to me!

I often find endings of thrillers a bit disappointing, even with novels that are otherwise excellent. Twists are shoehorned in or otherwise contrived, and it all becomes a bit silly. That is not the case here. It’s all beautifully tied up.

The exquisite writing is complemented to perfection by an electric performance from narrator Tamsin Kennard on the audiobook. The characters voices are distinctive and consistent, and she manages to convey emotion incredibly well, enhancing the listener experience to another level. I’ve finished the book feeling like these are real people that I’ll kind of miss.

Matchmaker is nothing short of an alchemic achievement between two artists, Lynes and Kennard, at the very top of their game.

If you loved this book, you’ll love The Lies We Hide, Mother, The Housewarming and many others by this author (especially on audiobook - all performed by the same narrator).

An electric, suspenseful twisty thriller
