About this listen

This is a comprehensive yet concise and accessible introduction to the history, role, activities and future challenges facing NATO. Assuming no prior knowledge of the subject, author Jennifer Medcalf guides listeners through the complex structure of this organisation. Despite predictions of its imminent demise, NATO is in fact more prominent than ever in international affairs, and this introduction will prove essential not only for the general listener, but also for the growing numbers of students on International Relations courses, and for service personnel in NATO and elsewhere.©2005 Jennifer Medcalf (P)2012 Bolinda Publishing Military Politics & Government

Editor reviews

If you are someone who, upon hearing the acronym "NATO", has a vague picture of something military, please listen to this audiobook. It's a comprehensive illumination of what NATO stands for and what it accomplishes, both militarily and non-militarily. Even if you know quite a bit about the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, this audiobook may surprise you with new information and perspectives, as author Jennifer Medcalf goes into quite a lot of detail as to NATO's structure and organization. Rob Meldrum's erudite narration is clear and engaging, and his English accent adds a lovely, sophisticated touch to this learning experience. Lastly, the audio provides a comprehensive list of further suggested resources, so listeners can continue to learn about this hugely important political organization.

Critic reviews

“Knowledgeable and able, this introduction covers the major developments of NATO’s post-Cold War evolution in an accessible manner.” (Anand Menon – Professor of Politics, Birmingham University)

Good level of detail but it reads like a legal document with annoying repetition of certain words and every chapter has intro, conclusion, summary etc, meaning even more repetition. Very frustrating, did not reach the end.

Tiresome
