Critic reviews
Review of Paul Noble Method by The City Magazine:
“Relaxing and listening to the CDs, I found that I seemed to absorb the phrases taught, without even consciously trying, and quickly felt confident enough to play around with the different components and make my own sentences.”
Reviews of Collins French with Paul Noble by Amazon customers:
"We both have a basic grasp of the relevant languages but this course is helping to improve our speaking ability better than all the previous attempts we have made. Try it."
"The language is explained in a simple way and the teacher doesn't use complex grammar terms… Instead the teacher more or less just leads you into French so that you find you can more or less start speaking it just a couple of hours in. For me though the absolute best thing about it is that it has allowed me to speak in full, proper sentences in French… A fantastic course and a well deserved 5 stars!"
"At last an easy way to learn a language!
Easy to understand plus an easy one to pop into the car cd player and use on the move, so no more 'I haven't the time… A lot more entertaining than text books and the old fashioned way of learning a different language other than the mother tongue. '"
"Overall, the method being used is superb and I feel it more or less guarantees that someone will be speaking French by the end. This is what has happened to me – and for the first time!"
I highly recommend the Paul Noble course. You can do it in the car or whilst walking the dog if you like because you can do the entire course as audio only. This is perfect if your main aim is to speak German and delay learning how to write it until you have mastered the basics.
I am also doing Pimsleur level 2 but really struggle to do that alone as Pimsleur does not give you grammar explanations; you are expected just to figure the patterns out for yourself. I find this almost impossible in German as it has strict grammar rules. This Paul Noble course gives a clear explanation of everything that is taught.
I have also used Speed Language Learning and unlike that course, the pronunciation on Paul Noble is crystal clear. He will ensure you know whether the sound at the end of the word is m or n. This is so important in German because it changes the meaning of the sentence and the word.
Another course that I can compare it to is Michael Thomas. Again, personally I would recommend Paul Noble over Michael Thomas because with Paul Noble you are asked to say something, given time to say it and then the narrator says it correctly. In my opinion this is better than Michael Thomas where you are listening to a lesson in which the students get things wrong so you are listening to incorrect prose plus correct prose. If you only want to hear correct prose, listen to this.
The downside is that it is a little slow and repetitive but repetition is key to learning. I listen to the easier parts on 1.25 speed.
