Summary

My first holiday with my husband's friends. A remote Scottish manor. Nine sacred dolls. One brutal murder.

We find the doll shattered on the floor, its broken pieces scattered like a warning. That's when everything starts to fall apart.

Now the power is out. A storm has trapped us here. And someone is dead.

We've only been married three months. And our first holiday as man and wife is spending ten days in a secluded Scottish manor with my husband's old friends. I've never met them before.

From the moment I arrive, I feel like an outsider.

And it's not just his friends. Things haven't been normal since the first day, when someone moved the dolls.

I told them not to — never move the dolls before the tenth day of Navaratri, the Hindu Festival of Dolls. They're not toys. They're part of a sacred tradition.

But no one listened. Even Dhruv — my husband — told me to stop being silly.

I know they're hiding something. I can't trust any of them — not even the man I married.

Now one of us is dead. One of us is a killer. Am I going to make it out of here alive?

Honestly I've no clue who's who, how many people there are, or really what's going on. However, I feel like the story could be good if it was a bit easier to follow. That said, it was pleasant to listen too and I liked the idea with the dolls.

Completely lost

Plot twists easy to guess. Narration quite slow for most characters. Had to turn up the speed. Unnecessary characters who never speak.

Good idea but disappointing

Not my usual listen and I did find some of it quite collected with the plot and all the different character angles. But it had an unexpected twist at the end and on the whole it wasn’t bad.

Complicated!

Fascinating to the end. Thoroughly enjoy this book with interesting fact as well as story. Twists as to be expected

Unusual

The plot was good, the premise of the dolls was interesting. This was a festival I was unaware of.
I felt there were too many characters and it became confusing at times. This was especially difficult as the readers changed and there was no continuity in voicing the characters. Some of the characters are not very pleasant, but they do develop.
Perhaps it would have been better set in Essex as the Scottish dialect is beyond the writers ‘ken’.

Good plot poor execution
