Summary

Jodi was driving her children to college when The Man got in their car. Uninvited, unwanted, and unhinged....

The Man has no name, but he does have a gun, a knife, and a bag of "toys".

What starts as a forced ride into the desert escalates into a disturbing series of crimes and assaults.

Jodi and her children will soon pray for death.

WARNING: This novella is incredibly disturbing. It features graphic scenes of sexual violence, torture, and gore. It is not intended for easily offended listeners. The print edition of this book includes an exclusive short story, which is not available on ebook. It is also gross and disturbing.

Loved the writing. skillful and original. the story was engrossing and the characters felt real. It was extreme and made me squirm but could have been worse! thankfully it stopped where it did. knocked a star off as I feel I could have had a bit more info about the demented torturer... but a solid read that I weirdly enjoyed.

Well-written, clever

No One Rides For Free 😮‍💨

This is another that I’ve had for so long ( I have the old cover version) It’s also currently included in the Audible sale so I obviously jumped on it, meaning I get to listen to it now & WOW 😮

Road trip anyone?

Jodi’s on the road, driving her kids back to college. She’s happy they’re growing into amazing young adults & she’s discovered a life for herself whilst they’re gone, life is good!!

After a while she makes a little pit stop to fuel up, gets snacks & take a toilet break leaving them both in the car with the engine running

But when she returns & sets off she notices Poppy sniffling, shaking & looking terrified. Poppy won’t answer her when she asks what’s wrong…but the voice in the back does…

Someone’s hitched a ride, he has a gun, zero f’s to give & is a complete sadist…all she can do is drive & hope they all survive 🫣

😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨 The fact that this had a trigger warning before & then again later on WHILST reading, to warn you what’s to come tells you all you need to know!!

This was ROUGH 😮‍💨 what a pos he was 🤢 I literally jaw dropped on multiple occasions through out!! And I am still trying to get my heart beat back to normal from the adrenaline!!

Judith, you are bloody brilliant 😭 this is defo my new fav from you!! 😮‍💨👏🏼🫶🏻

Do check your triggers, then maybe check again before going into this! It’s crazy brutal but so so good 🤎

I was recommended this book from TikTok and chose this book specifically because it was the only one in the bunch written by a woman—I figured it would be a refreshing take on the gory horror genre. Still, it did feel like it was written to please a male fantasy somehow, while still being unreasonably disgusting. I feel this might be a problem with the genre sometimes, but it did feel disappointing still.

Is it allowed for something to be too vile?

to the author: Whoever hurt you, I hope they suffer—and that you get a really good therapist. Because seriously, what the actual hell did I just read?

Like roadkill you can’t look away from

This is the most horrific book I have ever listened to. It is well written and the characters are easy to feel sympathy for as a family is brutalised by an unwanted stranger in their car. Sickening in parts and sorry to say I found it humorous in parts too, this was maybe an automatic reaction to the horrors being described. If listening to this be sure that you want to continue after chapter 5 where the author gives a warning of things to come. If you thought the first 5 chapters were bad then take heed, the rest is much worse. The narration was excellent and brought the horrors to life.
I was kindly given a copy of the book by the publisher and leave this honest review.

Brutally Good.
