This is not my usual genre and not an author I've read before. It's a story of Maggie's life in 60s London among rival gangsters and has graphic episodes of cruelty, torture, abortion, incest, prostitution, corruption, racism - but the plot and characters are so captivating that I couldn't put it down. I found the narrator cheesy at first, but I often find that with cockney accents as I'm northern. As the book developed, I changed my mind as the performance was very appropriate for the characters and I was never confused about who was speaking. I will read more from this author and this narrator.

Horrible book...I absolutely loved it!

With glee and a tingling inside I saw another addition to the Martina Cole library of epic novels (now co-authored by Jacqui Rose who could hold her own in any East End scuffle ha ha ). Of course it exceeded expectations. There are somethings in the world you can count on, the sun and moon rising AND anything written by Martina Cole and now Jacqui Rose will be a page turner you can't put down. Like all good things their writing collaborative will come to an end at some poijnt but we readers have been blessed beyond our wildest dreams all these years. Anything we're gifted from here on out is pure gravy. Thanks to them both. xxx
