The story may be better than the performance but the voices used by the narrator influence the whole plausibility of the whole plot. The characters are delivered in such a way that they grate to the point I almost gave up.

Just hard work

Good plot, good characters. Nice to read the detailed descriptions of the paramedics actions and factual representations of OCD. These and the crime based plot work well together. I think this is a debut novel? Regardless, I am very much looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Nice to read a book with factual descriptions of mental health conditions

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Stunning Crime Debut - Fresh Voice Alert!

Hannah Brennan delivers an absolutely gripping debut that showcases why she's one to watch in crime fiction. Her procedural skills are razor-sharp, with investigation techniques that feel both authentic and innovative. The pacing hits that perfect sweet spot where you're completely absorbed without feeling rushed.

DCI Liz Field is a brilliantly crafted protagonist - tough, flawed, and utterly compelling. Brennan's character development across the board is exceptional, with each person feeling fully realized rather than just plot devices. Her sensitive, authentic handling of mental health themes adds remarkable depth without ever feeling exploitative.

The writing itself is where Brennan truly shines. Her prose has this effortless quality that draws you in completely - sophisticated yet accessible, with dialogue that crackles with realism. She builds tension masterfully while weaving in emotional complexity that elevates this above standard procedurals.

The audio performance perfectly captures the gritty atmosphere and brings Field's world to vivid life. Every voice feels distinct and authentic.

This is intelligent, emotionally resonant crime fiction with genuine heart. Brennan combines psychological insight with solid detective work in ways that feel both fresh and satisfying. An absolute must-listen for summer!
