About this listen

From the author of the New York Times bestseller Better Than the Movies comes a romantic, heartfelt sequel that will sweep you off of your feet!

Wes had his dream girl but then he lost her – and the only way to get her back is to scheme like a rom-com hero…

For a few beautiful months, Wes and girl-next-door Liz were together. But right as the two were about to set off to UCLA together, tragedy struck and their relationship ended.

Flash forward and Wes and Liz find themselves in college, together. In a healthier place now, Wes knows he broke Liz’s heart, but is determined to make her fall back in love with him. And he has a foolproof plan to win her back with the rom-com worthy big gestures she loves. Only … Liz will have none of it. Wes has to scheme like a rom-com hero to figure out how to see her. Even worse, Liz has a new friend…a guy friend.

Still, Wes won’t give up and is determined to win back Liz’s affection. But after his best efforts get him nowhere, he’s is left wondering if their relationship is really over for good.

Nothing Like the Movies is perfect for hopeless romantics, lovers of grumpy x sunshine energy and for fans of Emily Henry and Ali Hazelwood!

Again some sad subjects handled with care. A great second chance love story. Definitely worth a listen if you loved the first book

Another great young romance

Firstly, I'm very proud of Charlie Bushnell he was fantastic as Wes and of course, Jesse Vilinsky was a delight as usual.
I enjoyed the story, which was surprising because I seldom enjoy the second-chance romance trope but I think Painter did a fantastic job writing older Wes and Liz.
The story reminded me of Jenny Han's The Summer I Turned Pretty specifically Belly and Conrad's situation (iykyk), but without the love triangle trope, which I'm grateful wasn't a part of this story.
It was a solid sequel to a relationship I adored from the first book. Painter lets you in on the characters' emotions so you understand both sides. It is realistic enough to be devastating while holding you firm with the hopeful romantic comedy elements. I also loved the song choices and film references like in Better Than The Movies. Highly recommend, 4.5 stars.

Solid Sequel ( I cried)

Another truly enjoyable listen from Lynn. I am a total sucker when it comes to continuations of a story.
The fallout from the leads' breakup felt really well written into both characters, and drive a story with a sombre edge.
Once again features a brilliant performance from Jesse, paired with a strong showing by Charlie., which makes the story a delight to listen to throughout.
A no-brainer for anyone for anyone who enjoyed the first book.

Worthwhile continuation

It’s a fun cute story but maybe a little too obsessed with pain? Or better yet a little bit over dramatic, maybe if I’d read it, it would’ve seemed less dramatic. I did not like the narration of the Liz it was trying a little too hard. I preferred Wes’ point of view just because the narration was less squealey.

Might be better read than listened to?
