This is an interesting and thought-provoking look at the life of a soldier abroad. Though a work of fiction, it felt strikingly realistic, drawing me into the struggles, challenges, and experiences faced by those who serve. Grant Love’s narration brings the story to life with depth, making it even more compelling. A recommended listen.

I will prioritise this narrator but haven't read this author before. I learnt so much and it just kept me engaged throughout. I kept stopping and asking my husband who is a self taught military historian he also learned a lot.
This book was so well researched and am so glad I listened to it.
it wasn't a war book in a blazing way rather an interesting and intelligent fiction based on fact

Brilliant narration from Grant Love, who brings the characters and drama to your ears.

When leaving school Douglas Tulloch joins the army and is accepted into Sandhurst. His father is not happy as he wanted to follow him in the legal profession.
He is sent to the North West Frontier in India. Returning to England he and his regiment become part of the British Expeditionary Force in Northern France at the beginning of World War Two. They find themselves fighting their way through the enemy lines to reach Dunkirk.

This book is full on action and pace.
