About this listen

He burned me once.

This time, I won’t be the one consumed by the flames.

Torren King is rock-and-roll’s broodiest bachelor.
Mysterious, moody, and coveted by nearly everyone.
But to me, he’s just the sad boy who set fire to my heart,
then reduced me to ashes in the desert.

For four sweltering nights, I burned for him,
and he conquered my heart one whispered lyric at a time.
But on the fifth night, he shattered me in the way only a flawless rock god can:
irreparably, and with devastating finesse.

Four years later, the last place I expect to be is sitting before him,
reading through a contract with a pen poised in my fingertips.
A favor for a favor, he says.
A US tour and a fake relationship in exchange for the answer to all my problems.

I hate him. I hate that I need him.
And what I hate the most?
He doesn’t remember me. At all.

But despite the burning chemistry between us,
the rapidly blurring lines and the suffocating attraction,
He’s still the rock star who ruined me.
I
refuse to let myself forget.

“Torren Freaking King made me fall head over feet in love with him. He gave me strength when mine was faltering. He played my bass notes when I couldn’t. He was my harmony when all I heard was dissonance. He’s my love song.”

Another day, another story that has left me a stumbling, fumbling, loss for words, emotional, lovesick, bookish hungover mess. One of my favorite reads of 2024!
I am so utterly and irrevocably obsessed with Brit’s words and worlds. Being back inside one of her worlds was just pure absolute bliss.

I was prepared for broody, sexy rock star Torren. But, broody, sexy, in love, completely head over heels gone for his girl Torren, baaaaaaby!!!
Nothing could have prepared me for that man. There was so much more to the man behind the brood. Romantic Torren, pour out his heart and soul Torren is a force to be reckoned with. That man put in overtime work for Callie’s forgiveness, affection and heart. His incredibly heartfelt words touched my soul and at one point brought me to tears with their beauty.

Brit knows if it’s one thing she’s a skillful beast at, it’s giving good angst and I was here for every second of it with Torren and Callie. Their story was passion, emotion, messy, humor, heartbreak, strength, courage, love and just every feel that’s possible to feel.

Calla Lily Sunrise James was an absolute spitfire full of independence, grit and determination. Although, we definitely had beef at times. She was like an onion, so many layers to be peeled. Prickly to where you wanted to keep your distance. But, at the same time, it was completely impossible not to adore and love her. Though, I’ve come to expect nothing less from a Brit Benson heroine. Callie had nothing but hate for Torren and everything Hometown Heartless. But, I swear it was something about that hate that made for this delicious back and forth between Torren and Callie.

The flashbacks were done in a way that was seamless and gave the perfect insight as to how things ended up in the present. They also did a perfect job as the supporting foundation for Torren and Callie’s love story. Their growth from the beginning to the end was absolutely incredible.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t give mention to chapter 33-35 cause Brit maam, exsqueeze TF out of me…you did not come to play. Lemme find out some. (IYKYK) The spice was spicing off the charts.

I loved being reunited with the band…it was like being back with family. Their bickering, their fun, their camaraderie, their love, their fights and the way they rode hard for each other. My gawd it just melted my heart.

This book completely consumed me wholeheartedly from the first word of the prologue to the last word in the epilogue.

My heart hurt so bad when I got to that last page and had to say goodbye cause I already NEED back in this world BAAAAAD.

BUT THEE AUDIO. Oh the audio is an absolute masterpiece of epic proportion!! Stella Hunter and Stephen Dexter were in freaking credible!! This book already packs an angsty, emotional punch but having their narration just takes it to another level! Then the musical accompaniment and performance at the end courtesy of Zachary Webber and Juno Cooper was just the icing on the cake!

An Absolute Masterpiece!!

My first book by Brit Benson and it's safe to say I'm a fan!

Of Heartbreak and Harmony was so compelling. I really enjoyed constantly wondering what happened between Torren and Callie to make them have their "second chance" so to speak. The random flashbacks gave us enough to keep us hooked while simultaneously refusing to tell us the whole story. Love love loved how these two were able to deal with with their problems together to build a strong relationship and give us the story we were able to love!

Stella Hunter and Stephen Dexter did an outstanding job on this duet narration audiobook. I was invested the whole time and they made me want to dive into book 1 of this series! Very happy with this one!

It’s confession time. I only just discovered Brit a few months ago. I know, I know, where have I been? Clearly, under a rock! BETWEEN NEVER AND FOREVER is Book 1 in this series, and it gutted me in the best way. I wasn’t sure how Brit was gonna match that story, but I needn't have worried. She smashed it once again with this heartbreaking rockstar romance. Although this is a standalone, so you don’t need to read Book 1, why wouldn’t you? It’s a fantastic story and well worth a nudge.

Torren King is not the nice guy, but he’s willing to take one for the team to keep his bandmate’s st@lker at bay. Cue Callie and the funniest meet-cute with her sister’s dog, also named Torren King! The story flips back and forth from events a few years ago when these two actually met for the first time. Brit gives us romance with messy emotions, decisions that don’t feel like the best, chemistry that will have you reaching for your lab coat and safety glasses, and love that will shred you and put you back together.

Stella and Stephen do a phenomenal job of breathing life into these characters. From the young and carefree Callie to the woman with a world of responsibilities backed into a corner with the guy she’s been trying to forget for years. Stella gave us emotion after emotion. You know the performance is good when you really don’t need the dialogue tags or even some of the action beats because the acting says it all. The laughs, the cracks in the voice, the whispers, this audio has it in spades. That was Stella. And Stephen gives us everything from p!ssed-off bandmate to painfully in-love fake boyfriend. He matches Stella with his performance, creating an absolute feast for the ears. You don’t want to miss this audiobook.

If you are looking for a series that is real and raw and will wreck you. Buckle up and press play on THE HOMETOWN HEARTLESS.

It’s no secret at this point that I adore, love and cherish this series and this book but now let me tell you how mesmerized I am with this audiobook.

I am a big defender that audiobooks can upgrade your experience with a book that you already love and this one is the definition of that. Everything about it was pure perfection and a masterpiece that both of the narrators delivered.

I have no words for how amazing every scene was performed and how I felt like every single character was real. I don’t how it’s possible but Brit always cast the best narrators for her characters and this one THANK LORD, was not an exception.

This audiobook, alongside with the book, made me cry, laugh out loud and fell in love *again* with a world I can’t be part of.
There were a lot of moments that touched my soul deeply and I cried like a baby in the last few chapters. Stella's performance was flawless and I never felt a character pain like I felt Callie’s in chapter 41 and 42. Truly, those two chapters made me SOB. What a hell of a performance.

But, let’s not forget about Stephen and how perfect he was as Torren. I get chills everytime he says “firebird” and I don’t think I will ever recover.

There’s a specific part that I wanted to talk about (right in the end, you will know once you listneing to it) but I think you need to listen to it and get the whole experience - and please enjoy it to the fullest.

The bonus scene was one of my favorites ever when I read it and in audio it was just… Well, *better*.

I never wished something fictional was so real like I wish these bands were.

WHAT. A. AUDIO.
