I thoroughly enjoyed the love story. The characters were adorable and well written and the HEA and narration were perfect.

Book 2 in the Chicago Thunder series follows Ethan, the older captain of the team & Jacob, the brother of one of the MCs in book one. Ethan keeps people at a distance due to past hurt and Jacob has a distrust of athletes thanks to being bullied yet these two have formed a tentative friendship after Ethan helping Jacob getting out from under his bakery's debts. Ethan has a family wedding in England to attend and his ex will be there so doesn't want to rock up solo so asks Jacob to go with him and that is the set up for this fake dating/summer Fling that turns into so much more.

I liked this, just not as much as I did book one. The fake dating element was barely a blip in this story, and I was hoping for more from that than we got, plus the confrontation between Ethan & his ex was lacklustre to me. I know this series is low to no angst, but some drama would have been nice, ya know? I think the way greif is portrayed through Jacobs character is an important thing to see represented in books and as someone who lost my mother at a young age i know from experience how grief doesn't follow a linear process, however, I felt Jacob wallowed in his grief too much at times and that made parts of the story feel a bit draggy and slowed the overall pacing down for me. I think my main issue with this was how contradictory both Ethan & Jacob were as characters overall, at times they bother said, did and behaved in ways that didn't fit the character we were being told they were and that kept pulling me out of the story and the miscommunication was rife, therefore i wasn't as invested in them as a couple as I should have been. The spice was good, and I liked the little glimpses we got of the side characters from the previous book. This just didn't give me the same warm fuzzy feelings as book one did, although overall, it was a decent read. 🌶🌶
