About this listen

The bad boy of professional fencing meets Hollywood’s favorite good girl in this sexy sports romance set against the backdrop of a high-stakes blockbuster.

DANTE HASTINGS:

You might have heard of me.

I was the defending Olympic champion—until I used my fist instead of my sabre during a match. Needless to say, I was suspended. Which means no competing for a year…and cleaning up my image.

So, instead of continuing to dominate the fencing world, I’m working on a film that’s poised to be next year’s blockbuster action flick.

The upside? Working with Reese Sinclair, my celebrity crush whose poster was on my wall growing up. Spending time with her will help wash the tabloids of my suspension and convince the league that I’m reformed.

But America’s sweetheart is nothing like I imagined. She’s stubborn, ambitious, and struggling to prove herself in a role that no one thinks she can handle. Still, her determination runs red-hot, and I can’t help but admire her.

When our late-night training sessions turn into something more, I start to realize that I’m outmaneuvered by feelings I never saw coming.

REESE SINCLAIR:

The girl next door. The best friend. The love-struck heroine.

I’ve played them all.

But with 30 creeping closer, I need to prove to myself that I can be more than Hollywood’s darling. And this movie is the opportunity I’ve been waiting for, the project I can use to break out of my typecasting.

The problem? I’m not cut out for action-packed stunt work.

Enter: Dante Hastings. He’s hedonistic, insufferable, infuriatingly gorgeous—and my last shot at making this career move work.

I should stay away. His reputation alone could sink mine. But the more time we spend together, the more I see past all his tabloid exploits and rule-breaking. He knows what it means to fight for something.

But a leading lady doesn’t simper over her co-workers, right?

Yet as much as I try to resist, part of me wants to let Dante put the sin in Sinclair.

On Guard is book 2 in The Hastings series and it can definitely be enjoyed as a standalone. I had so much fun with this one. The concept was so original, America's Sweetheart actress and a Fencing professional bad boy, I had never read about that Sport before and it was a lot of fun. It was such an easy and light story to read. It flowed nicely, it went by super fast and I was absolutely engrossed in the characters' stories. Kels & Denise always approach mental health with such grace and respect. It feels so real, relatable and I appreciate that so much from their books. The learning disability Dante had was also approached with such care, I cannot commend them enough for that.

Dante & Reese were such great characters, they had so many layers to uncover and so much depth. The growth they both experienced with and without each other was absolutely beautiful. I adored seeing Reese come out of her shell and find her voice. I loved seeing Dante be vulnerable and find his place as well. Their relationship was such a beautiful thing to watch evolve. Their chemistry and banter was absolute fire.

Overall, this was a really great add on to the series. A fun concept, great characters and a storyline that kept me invested throughout.

🎧 The narration by Savannah Peachwood & Teddy Hamilton was absolutely amazing as usual. I absolutely adore these two with all my heart and they brought these characters to life so perfectly. Their voices were perfect, their emotions and vulnerabilities all shined through their performances. Highly recommend the audio!

I absolutely loved this book wholeheartedly. This is only the second book I've read by these authors, but I definitely need to read all of their books because they just don't disappoint. I fell in love with these characters fast and hard, the storyline was amazing and I was so invested I just did not want to stop reading. I can't wait to read the next book in this series! I really liked the narrators too and I think they did a great job with these characters!

Kels & Denise Stone’s writing is confident, immersive, and emotionally grounded. The pacing strikes a strong balance between slow burn tension and payoff, allowing the relationship to develop naturally without sacrificing momentum. The authors do an excellent job layering vulnerability beneath sharp banter, giving both main characters fully realized emotional arcs. The sports element adds stakes without overpowering the romance, and the dual POV allows readers to deeply connect with both characters’ internal struggles and growth.

Savannah Peachwood brings warmth, confidence, and emotional nuance to Reese’s perspective. Her delivery captures Reese’s ambition and vulnerability beautifully, making her journey feel authentic and relatable. Teddy Hamilton voices Dante with the perfect mix of grit and restraint, balancing his rough edges with emotional depth. His performance highlights Dante’s internal conflict and growth, adding an extra layer of intensity to key scenes. Together, their performances elevate the story, enhancing the chemistry, banter, and emotional beats in a way that feels seamless and immersive.
