About this listen

A thrilling, thought-provoking novel from one of young-adult literature's boldest new talents.

January 29, 2035. That's the day the comet is scheduled to hit - the big one.

Denise and her mother and sister, Iris, have been assigned to a temporary shelter outside their hometown of Amsterdam to wait out the blast, but Iris is nowhere to be found, and at the rate Denise's drug-addicted mother is going, they'll never reach the shelter in time. A last-minute meeting leads them to something better than a temporary shelter - a generation ship scheduled to leave Earth behind to colonize new worlds after the comet hits. But everyone on the ship has been chosen because of their usefulness.

Denise is autistic and fears that she'll never be allowed to stay. Can she obtain a spot before the ship takes flight? What about her mother and sister? When the future of the human race is at stake, whose lives matter most?

This Story is well written and well performed, draws you right in from the very first second. The main character is unapologetically autistic and unquestionably a hero in this story. It touches you deeply, the story is compelling and well rounded and difficult to turn off once you started listening. I highly recommend this to listeners of any age, not just the intended YA.

Unbelievably well written

I was surprised how much I enjoyed this. It gives an amazing insight to autism and the plot kept me listening and wanting to know what would happen next. I'm not sure if there's another follow on book to this yet, but if not, I hope there will be soon.

Fab story from a different perspective

I am usually a psychological thriller kinda girl, so wouldn't have considered this usually. Having recently had a diagnosis of Autism I went in search of a fiction book related to ASC, it's hard to find books that aren't factual or biographical. I loved that this shares what it's like to have an autistic brain, without it going over the top. Also, it's actually a brilliant story so would appeal to readers who aren't looking for an autistic character like I was. It was read well and I liked the way the story developed. A good read.

A true and brilliant insight into the autistic mind.
