About this listen

Runner has a problem. He and 499,000 men and women are trapped in a game. He also just happens to be the only person from IT who could log everyone out safely. And he doesn't remember his password.

He, like everyone else in this nightmare, had his memory scrambled or lost in the process of being loaded into the game. A single garbled message is his only clue to how to save everyone.

The problem is that whoever loaded them into the game loaded their minds completely. If they die, their brains get wiped.

Now it's time for Runner to flex his skills as a power gaming min maxer and see what he can do. Because every time he levels, he might gain the memory of the password. Time to go hardcore.

Some familiarity with RPG gaming would be useful and sometimes the computer interface can be a little distracting, however the story and the awakening of In game characters is really well portrayed and described.

The only comment I would make is that while Jeff Hays is really excellent, he has employed a quiet voice and a normal voice and sometimes the quiet voice can be difficult to hear. This is in no way a major detractor and I would recommend the story heartedly.

Really entrancing

another one of those stories with people stuck in a virtual reality world. I quite enjoyed it. I look forward to the next book in the series.

good start

Really enjoyed this book. It was really easy to get into the story and the narration from Jeff Hays was top notch as always.

This is the third masterpiece book series from my current library of 83 titles.

For the sake of the review I want to say something bad about it, but there's absolutely nothing bad about it.

The character's depth is amazing, the story is very well presented, the narration is top notch (much as expected of Jeff Hays).. I'm literally going to sleep and wake up listening to it ( and yes.. I know, it's not a healthy habit... but this is the confirmation that the story is intriguing and its worth the time and money).

Tho this is only the first book of the series, I'm sure the rest won't disappoint.

P. S. For other listeners. Be aware that the next 2 books of this series are already uploaded even if you can't see the list of them when you look on the page of this book. You can find the books by tapping on the author's name and search the name of the series in the book list. (or search his name in the search bar). GL.

MASTERPIECE

I love this series, I read the books a while ago and decided to give the audio version a go so I can listen while driving.

The story and characters are as strong as I remember, and the plot and 'sense of peril' are well done.

The narration was good, with little elements that worked well (like an echo to the voice when it's the MC's internal thoughts). The only reason I'm not giving that 5/5 is there are times when the voices and tones used don't match the description, and I couldn't help find they jarred - if the character says something in 'a warm soft voice' according to the description then that is what you expect to hear, and when you don't as I say it jars. If I could give it 4.5/5 I would, but as I can't I have to go with a 4 for that.

However as an overall rating it's definitely a 5/5.

Great book, narration slightly less than perfect
