'A spirited swashbuckling fantasy about family, revenge and the price of justice' - Silvia Moreno-Garcia, author of Mexican Gothic
Two sisters: divided by tragedy, united by steel. The incredible new novel in the Court of Shadows series by the bestselling author of TRAITOR'S BLADE and THE MALEVOLENT SEVEN!

Blood Week may have been banned in Rijou, but the streets still run red - and now murder is being sanctioned by the courts. Only a reckless fool would believe they can beat the system. But then, the Greatcoats have always been more than a little reckless . . .

Rijou's notorious Court of Blades is as corrupt as it is cutthroat, destroying lives with impunity. Now the city's all-powerful Ascendant Houses have started buying and selling verdicts to enslave and even execute those who oppose them.

Into this depraved world of licensed death comes a mysterious duellist who dares to foil the intrigues of the city's elite. They call her Lady Consequence, but years ago she had a different name, until her family was slaughtered and she was consigned to the hellish prison known as the House of Tears.

Lady Consequence means to rescue her idealistic younger brother, restore their House and wreak vengeance upon those who betrayed them. But a far more dangerous game is unfolding in the shadows, one which threatens the freedom of the entire nation.©2025 Sebastien de Castell

A spirited swashbuckling fantasy about family, revenge and the price of justice
Sebastien de Castell has authored a great many fantastic books, but this, I think, is his very best. Our Lady of Blades is masterfully-crafted and relentlessly clever, balancing wry humour and heart-wrenching poignancy on a blade's edge. I loved it, and lost count of the lines I wish I'd written myself.
Unpredictable, riveting, and spellbinding in equal measure; the undisputed master of swashbuckling fantasy strikes his mark again!
Sebastien weaves each chapter of the dual timelines like an expert fencer and has balanced the theatrical with raw emotion that bleeds through every page. I adored this book
An impressively original and deftly crafted saga of a novel, Our Lady of Blades (the second title in 'The Court of Shadows' series) continues to demonstrate author Sebastien de Castell's extraordinary mastery of the Epic Heroic Fantasy genre, with a genuine flair for character and narrative driven storytelling style. Readers will be plunged into an historical fantasy world and a compelling, 'point of a sword' vengeance quest replete with unexpected plot twists and turns up until the memorable finale

This is just a wonderful revisit to Rijou with a new cast of characters, cameos from old friends and enemies and just a wonderful (but very very very dark) tale.

Another banger in a series I adore

this is by far de-castells most twisting work, with parts that make you doubt what you knew about the characters. the handling of growth and the drama of the duels, combined with the perfect narration this one of my top 10 listens

Sebastien DeCastel's swashbuckling adventures have always been a bit let down by the quality of the narration, but finally Kristen Atherton has stepped up to give some real gravitas to a brand new adventure. This story was cracking, and a great new addition to the Tristian world.

Finally, worthy narration for DeCastel's Stories
