No one knows the real reason she left or the truth she’s kept hidden. On her first night back, she comes face-to-face with the one person she tried hardest to forget. But when a stranger intervenes, everything shifts. As their connection deepens, Hannah finds herself torn between the future she’s always planned and the one she never imagined was possible.

This was such a difficult book for me to review because on the one hand, I absolutely loved the storyline and the writing was beautiful - but on the other, I just couldn't get past one part of the content at all - let me explain.
So, after years of staying away from the town and it's people who made her feel unwanted and out of place, Hannah returns home to care for her sick mother.
With not too much longer to live, Hannah knows that she must overlook all that happened years ago, to spend those last few weeks together.
On arrival, Hannah is confronted by the man who ruined her life years before - but she's rescued by a man who is new to town and they form a friendship from that point on.
Now, there were many twists and turns as the story unfolds and basically Hannah and Patrick bond over past trauma - despite them both having reasons that means they can't be together.
The main reason for me, being that Hannah is engaged.
This relationship continues to grow between the pair and eventually they do cross the line and although it's only a kiss, they both profess their strong feelings for each other and the fact that they can't keep away.
The backstory for both Hannah and Patrick was beautifully written and I feel that I could have really got behind the will they - won't they all the way as they were both such beautiful characters.
But I just couldn't put aside that the whole time, Hannah was cheating on the lovely Noah.
I would have loved this if he could have been taken out of the picture and we'd just seen the struggles of Patrick having given himself to the church rather than filling this with so much infidelity.
I know I'm going on...but it was actually quite upsetting at times and even moreso that none of the other reviews even mention this side of the storyline.
This really pulled some strong emotions from me whilst reading, for many reasons. But, I would definitely read more books by this author as, like I said, the writing style and majority of the storyline was so well done and beautifully crafted.
beautifully written and an emotional read

There is a constant emotional undercurrent throughout the book from both main characters past but also the present circumstances.
Between the main characters it did feel like instant love / infatuation due to circumstances they were both in.
I must say I did find Hannah the FMC quite irritating at times, I couldn’t help wanting to ask why she was doing some things.
