About this listen

Jeff Russo, a somewhat surly full-time mall custodian and hobbyist storm chaser, feels fated to a life without intimacy, the wall cloud of past trauma poised to wreck every romantic relationship he tries to pursue. But when Jeff meets the constantly corny, very nerdy, and hopelessly endearing Gary Graham of radio station WKBR, he is helpless to fight his burgeoning feelings.

Gary Graham, part-time calculus professor, part-time radio personality, and full-time self-proclaimed weirdo, has packed his schedule to the brim so that he might stave off loneliness. Afraid of losing people, Gary tends to latch on too tightly in his romantic relationships, which has only ever resulted in heartbreak.

Jeff and Gary’s fast friendship threatens to turn into too much too soon, and their romantic intimacy seems to only forecast catastrophe. Forced out of his storm shelter, Jeff will have to face his trauma and learn how to be vulnerable, or chance losing the only man with whom he has ever felt truly safe. And Gary will have to let Jeff take the lead, or risk hurting the broody-yet-sweet man he is starting to love.

Navigating intimacy in the middle of a metaphorical tornado isn’t easy, but Gary and Jeff are willing to try. Because true love is worth weathering the storm for.

Set in 1985 in Niles, Ohio, Out of the Storm is a heartfelt MM romance with a torrent of humor, a flurry of heartache, and a sprinkling of spice.

Oh my goodness my words will not do this beautiful story justice but I enjoyed it so much.

First let me praise Oliver Williams for the wonderful way that he brought this story to life. I felt all the emotions and was connected with every character which I was easily able to tell apart. I will happily be listening to more recordings from Oliver in the future.

Now to this beautiful story. The title reflects the story so well as does the cover art which is beautiful and perfect.
I love how the story connects the physical storms of the tornado with the internal storms of Jeff and Gary.
They both have been hurt in the past and can be the perfect comfort for each other but need to learn how to trust again to let each other be there. The story is full of heart and humor and wrapped me in a hug the entire time I was listening. I cried, I laughed and I got that warm fuzzy feeling.

Great world building and wonderful cast of characters!

Thank You to Logan Sage Adams and team for the copy to listen!

I shady loved this book, so getting a chance to experience it in a different medium was so exciting. My first thought was that Gary, one of the MCs, who runs a local radio station would love this! He’s a big nerd and loves both the technical and performance side of radio, so he would be really into Audible! (The book takes place in the 1980s, so it’s unimaginable to him!)

I was awestruck by how good the narrator was at bringing the MCs, and the excellent cast of side characters, to life. It seriously was like listening to a full cast recording, he was that good at the voices!

It was so nice getting another chance to read this wonderful story about one slightly broken man and one very broken man fixing each other with love and kindness.

I am so glad Adams made Out of the Storm into an audiobook and I hope there are more on the way. I also take hope they use the same narrator because he is just *chef’s kiss*

Gary would be so proud!

Audiobook - very good narration. I liked the different voices for the MCs.
Story - the time period felt very realistic. Both MCs were struggling in very different ways, and what they needed most from each other for comfort is what the other had the most difficulty with giving. The way mental health and trauma was viewed felt very accurate and was a good reminder that despite these topics still being too taboo, there has been some improvement. I really liked the way physical and metaphorical storms kept coming back in the story.

fits the time period well
