Summary
An instant USA Today bestseller and the perfect steamy contemporary romance from bestselling author Lana Ferguson
When two rival divorce lawyers can't stay out of each other's beds it turns out the gavel isn't the only thing that's banging . . .
As one of the top divorce lawyers in Chicago, Danica Pierce has no problem being married to her job, not when love only ends in hurt. When the biggest case of her career gives her a shot at making partner, it seems like nothing could possibly stand in her way . . . except for her infuriating secret: she's sleeping with the enemy.
Ezra Hart is known for charming his way in and out of a courtroom. In the matter of winning Danica's heart, however, he's been far less successful. With her verdict to keep things purely physical with no chance of appeal, Ezra struggles to show Danica he's more than the insufferable playboy she's pegged him to be.
While Dani and Ezra battle it out in the courtroom, the real trial is the one happening between them. When Dani realizes that everything she knows of Ezra might be hearsay she must choose between her fear of trusting again and the feelings blossoming between her and the man she thought was her worst enemy.

Critic reviews
The Fake Mate delivers the best of my two favourite worlds: a grumpy dark-haired doctor who-literally-howls to the moon, and the high stakes fake dating conundrum he's thrusted into. Make no mistake, Lana weaves fantastically the elements we love from a paranormal romance (namely, attractive shifters with extremely interesting drives), with the humour characteristic from the best contemporary rom-com you can get your hands on. This book is addictive, epically smutty and the breath of fresh air the romance genre didn't know it needed

This book has been on my to read list for ages and have finally got round to listening to it and it was glorious. I've read and listened to a few books by this author and I've enjoyed every single one.
Firstly, I have to say this book was brilliantly narrated by Connor Crais and Samantha Summers. Connor could recite the alphabet to me and I'd be melting but he played all parts of Ezra perfectly. Samantha was fantastic as Dani delivering her sarcasm and lines with bite.
From the get go, the tension was there between Ezra and Dani. They are both lawyers working against each other on a case and although they have slept together a few times, they are determined to not let this affect the case or their professionalism.
Dani is a feisty character and she delivers her lines with gusto. Her walls are up to protect her and she just can't understand why she keeps going back to Ezra for me. He is the sunshine to her grumpiness and it was a fine change to see roles reversed. They both had interesting things in their past and again I found this quite refreshing as it was different.
I loved getting to know the characters as their relationship developed but I also loved the aspects of the case they were working on. As a reader I got to go along on the journey and it was fun as I felt I was part of the drama as it was unfolding.
When they finally went all in with each other it was delicious as I sensed the truly did belong together. There were some really fabulous scenes and I loved the nicknames Ezra had for Dani. Some of their dialogue was laugh out loud hysterical.
It was another great book from this author and it didn't let me down. Her books are always a great time.
Brilliant! ❤️x
