Persuasion, Jane Austen's last novel, is a tale of love and marriage told with irony and insight. Anne Elliot and Captain Wentworth have met and seperated years before. Their reunion, after the passage or irrecoverable years of their youth, forces a recognition of the false values that drove them apart.First published 1818. Very good narration , lovely to listen and relax to. An easy way to introduce a book by one of Britain's favourite classic author.

fantastic

This is a really excellent reading of my favourite of JA's books. The powerful tension is well conveyed, as are the emotions of Ann - surely one of the most self aware and perceptive of heroines. I love, too, the tone which comes through to mark the biting and perhaps bitter sarcasm which adds such flavour to the book.

Overall I really love this book. However it has a feeling of being a first draft and could benefit from some massive revisions. I struggled as well with not knowing what was going on with the other characters which Anne of course could not be privy to. But as the book was written in the third person omniscient, and not the first, the author could have let us in on what was going on in the other characters' minds. Instead, we have a lengthy explanation by Wentworth at the end " oh this is how I was feeling during chapter 15 etc". As if he was a robot for the entire book and then suddenly at the end "oh btw, I do have feelings". But yeah loving how mature this book is compared to her other writings and also love the TV adaptation!! well worth a listen to the original novel.
