The novel from Sunday Times bestselling author

Platform Seven at 4am: Peterborough Railway Station is deserted. The man crossing the covered walkway on this freezing November morning is confident he's alone. As he sits on the metal bench at the far end of the platform it is clear his choice is strategic - he's as far away from the night staff as he can get.

What the man doesn't realise is that he has company. Lisa Evans knows what he has decided. She knows what he is about to do as she tries and fails to stop him walking to the platform edge.

Two deaths on Platform Seven. Two fatalities in eighteen months - surely they're connected?

No one is more desperate to understand what connects them than Lisa Evans herself. After all, she was the first of the two to die . . .

Just finished listening to this on Audible - so well written and beautifully read. It made for compelling listening and I would happily read it myself at some point. A domestic noir that is fascinating. I was completely invested in Lisa and her life and what follows. A departure from Louise Doughty's usual subject matter I think.

You know how some book reviews talk of devouring the whole work in one go, desperate to know what happened next? I think this book really worked for me because it was just so good to work through in 30 to 60 minute chunks on the daily dog walk. Both the story arc and the narration have a comfortable quality to them, you look forward to spending some more time with the central character.

There is a subtlety to the way the central character describes all the other characters in her life (and death), nothing is too heavy handed nor reshaped with the benefit of hindsight.

This was a "daily deal" gamble for me, not my usual sort of text but a gamble I am very glad I took. What could have been some dark and depressing topics are actually dealt with in a positive way.

Unhurried and quite compelling

Based on human vulnerability with a plot that leads into the characters which includes loving and damaging behaviour. Fizzled out a bit at the end but I credited it with five because it was well read and written in very touching descriptive prose

clever conceptual plot
