Some people disappear. Everett Ruess became a legend.

At sixteen, he left civilization behind to wander the vast Southwest alone—years before the region was known to the world. For four years, he explored remote canyons and deserts, writing vivid, poetic letters and living as if the wild itself were his only companion.

Then, at twenty, he vanished.

In The Legend of Everett Ruess, Robert Louis DeMayo brings Everett’s true story to life through a powerful blend of history, imagination, and the young wanderer’s own words. As his final journey unfolds, the desert seems to shift around him—where time, memory, and myth blur into something deeper than a simple disappearance.

For anyone who has ever dreamed of walking away from everything and into the unknown, this audiobook invites you to travel beside Everett, step by step, into a story that still echoes across the canyon walls.

I really enjoyed this one. Listened to it twice. Although they were from a different era I prefer Everett Ruess to Christopher McCandless. I won't go into reasons because it doesn't matter.

I was a little sad at the end but admire Everett.

I appreciate much of the book is conjecture but he chased his dreams.

I hope his death was swift as it makes me a little sad to think he suffered.

Regards.
