"Peaky Blinders with swords" (Barnes & Noble), perfect for fans of Mark Lawrence and Joe Abercrombie.

'The poorer and more oppressed people are, the weaker they become - until they just refuse to take it any more. Then they will rise up, and the gods help their oppressors.'

When Tomas Piety and his Pious Men returned from the war, he just wanted to rebuild his crime empire and look after his people. But the sinister Queen's Men had different ideas and whether he likes it or not, he's now a spy as well.

Now, half the city of Ellinburg lies in ashes and the webs of political intrigue are stretching out from the Queen's capital to pull Tomas in. Dannsburg is calling.

In Dannsburg the nobility fight with words, not blades, but the results are every bit as bloody. In this pit of beasts, Tomas must decide once and for all whether he is truly the people's champion...or just a priest of lies.

And as Tomas' power grows, the nobility had better watch their backs...

I really enjoyed the first book and it's uber-violent ending but this one was better still. The narration is excellent and I'd be happy to listen to pretty much anything with David Morley Hale voicing it. I won't spoil the story but if you're looking for a dark fantasy tale with plenty of twists and turns, this might well be it.

My New Favorite Grimdark Series

Boom, this series goes from strength to strength. Priest Of Lies is the second instalment of the War For The Rose Throne series and it just gets better, more bloody, more riots and death to the traitorous scum. I absolutely love Peter McLean's writing, the setting and plot is so good, I really hope to see this turned into tv series one day. The world he has created in Ellinburg with its dark alleys, turfs set by boundaries by the local gangs, surrounded with dank taverns, bawdy houses and gambling dens, has now expanded to the capital of Dannsburg where not showing support for your Queen would make you disappear. When Tomas Piety returned from the war, he just wanted to rebuild his empire of crime with his gang of Pious Men. But his past as a spy for the Queen's Men drew him back in and brought him more power than he ever imagined. There is foreign interference in Ellinburg bringing corruption, murder, traitors to their own city and a war between two countries that must be stopped at all costs. Tomas Piety will do what is necessary to stop another Abingon. Just brilliant, if you love sword fighting gangsters and magic, then I very highly recommend...😁🔥💥🥃

Absolutely Tremendous.

Although the start is slow and the end is jarring (as it ought to be after all that happened during the book), I love, love and adore the series! An instant classic. Exciting, fresh, well written and leansl into themes of justice, power, loyalty and opression.

Incredible sequel!
