About this listen

A history lesson they’ll never forget … and neither will you.

Mattie Engel is one of the rising stars at Private Berlin, and believes she’s seen the worst of people in her previous life with the Berlin police force. That is until Chris, her colleague – and until recently, her fiancé – is found dead, brutally murdered in an old slaughterhouse outside the city.

The slaughterhouse is filled with bodies. But just as Private begin their investigations, the building explodes, wiping out all evidence of the crimes, and nearly killing Mattie and her team.

Mattie soon realises that a masked killer is picking off Chris’s childhood friends, one by one, and destroying the trail. But who wants the past buried so badly? What is the truth about that slaughterhouse? And will Mattie become the killer’s next victim?

NEarly gave up on this one. The narrator was awful. Tried to give a different voice to everyone which didn't work. All the men sounded the same, the women sounded like something from a kids cartoon.

Difficult to follow, awful narration

I enjoyed this fairly gory tale, which focused very much on Berlin, City of Scars, and didn't really add anything to the ongoing story of Private. (Unlike Private Vegas, which hardly mentions the City of Sin at all.)

However, despite the authors' dedication to extensive research into life in pre- and post-reunification Berlin, this audiobook's attention to detail stopped short of teaching the narrators how to pronounce German names correctly. This omission, given that the narrators portrayed two native Berliners, did not detract from the drama but did spoil the illusion on occasions.

More Berlin than Private

From start to finish, even though this is a work of fiction, it reads like pure fascinating fact!

Not as high tech as the others, but equally as high drama. Stick with it, it's worth it!

The Most Serious Private in the Series.
