About this listen

The youngest warlock to ever wield lightning, 14-year-old Anna Atticus Stone dreams of attending the prestigious Academy of Arcane Arts.

Except her life is a mess. She's friendless, her older sister keeps knocking her teeth out, and her parents constantly argue.

Anna endures the chaos by studying for the coming academy entrance trials. A pass will mean friends, warlock tournaments, and exploring a thousand-year-old academy - maybe even solving a mystery or two.

But when she discovers her father carries an ancient and powerful secret intended for only one daughter - a secret her sister will do anything to possess - Anna finds herself in a desperate fight for her family...and her very future.

Prodigy of Thunder is packed with powerful sorcery, fearless adventure, ancient mysteries, and tender betrayal. It can be heard alone or as a prequel to Sever Bronny's best-selling coming-of-age sagas The Arinthian Line series and the Fury of a Rising Dragon series.

I really enjoyed Prodigy of Thunder. At 48, I don’t usually reach for YA fantasy, but this book completely pulled me in. It’s not overly complicated or weighed down with heavy world-building, which actually made it a very easy and enjoyable listen. The story moves at a great pace and genuinely keeps you on edge—there’s never a dull moment.

The characters are engaging, the action is constant, and the tension is well maintained throughout. I was always curious to see what would happen next. A big plus was the narrator, who did an excellent job bringing the story to life and keeping the energy high from start to finish.

Overall, Prodigy of Thunder is a fun, fast-paced fantasy that proves YA books can be just as entertaining for adult readers. Highly recommended if you want something exciting and immersive without being overly complex.

Proof That YA Fantasy Can Thrill Any Age

The setting of the book was fantastic and the world of arcanery was described beautifully throughout. There were however too many aspects of the book, mostly regarding Anna that I could not overlook.

Anna was far too juvenile for her age, having bun bun at 14 with constant reference to it was difficult. Even if she was sheltered it's just too much, never showing any sign of growing out of it. Her love for her mother and sister was far too delusional for my liking I thought it was unrealistic. I think were Anna 8 years of age it may have made more sense. Anna never treated a single person with respect no matter what they did for her. Similarly, her sister was so awful of a person no matter what. Don't read if you had a traumatic sibling relationship.

Long book and a tough read if you don't like baby talk and insolence but gives you a glance into the wonderful and tragic world of warlocks. Am going to read the second book as I heard it was an improvement.
