About this listen

Five jobs. Five chances for redemption.

There's nothing like being blackmailed by a dead man to really bring a group of cons together. And what a group we are: a hacker, a thief, a con artist, a thug, and a Federal agent with an ax to grind.

The deal is simple: We do the jobs, and Charlie's lawyer wipes the slate clean for each of us, one at a time. Since job number one calls for some muscle, it looks like I'm up first. I'm Steele Alvarez, ex-Special Forces close protection specialist (aka, a bodyguard for some not-so-nice guys).

After learning what the job is - taking down a seemingly untouchable senator with a penchant for beating up young male prostitutes - I'm in. No questions. A bullet ought to do the trick. Then I met Senator Harlan's latest victim: Breck Pfeiffer, the gorgeous hooker with a heart of gold and the soul of a fighter. One look at him, and I'm gone. That kid laid me out harder than any punch ever did.

I'll do anything to protect Breck, even kill for him. But Breck doesn't want the senator dead, he wants vengeance. If we're going to find a way bring down the slimebag and get the blackest mark on my record erased, I'm going to need all the help I can get.

I think I'd have loved this as a read but some of the narration is really bad. Basically, there are loads of characters and the narrators struggled to voice them all so it was distracting at times. Not all the voices are bad but the twins are terrible. My advice would be to read rather than listen to it because the premise and story are enjoyable. This probably would have worked better as an ensemble cast with the voices being done by more people. Such a shame! I gave up half way.

Shame about the narration

I really enjoyed listening to this first book of a series and have book 2 ready to play,I'm quite disappointed that there isn't a book 3 at present and hope the rest of the series will be on audio too.
This has quite an original storyline with lots of characters to get to know.
The narration was quite good.
I recommend listening if you like a good action series.

Great start to a new to me series

I really enjoyed the characters and storyline, both were very well written. The only negative, for me, was the narrators, the college aged Breck sounded like a 65 year old, chain smoker.

great storyline

My first book by author and am hooked. Laughed out loud a couple of times. Can’t wait for the whole series to be available on audio

Great narrators. Hilarious plot somewhat lifted and changed from Charlie's Angels to make a charming, holiday camp mystery drama with a great cast of MCs to include the obligatory twins, a cop, a Father.

Was not expecting every avenue we went down which kept it lively and fresh. Looking forward to Book 2. Thank you Audible for the freebee.

SO FUNNY
