Summary

The spectacular conclusion to the New York Times bestselling Raven's Shadow series, which began with the critically acclaimed Blood Song

EMPIRES WILL FALL

Queen Lyrna has survived the bloody siege of Alltor. Now she must rally her troops and take back the capital from the Volarian invaders. But driving her hated enemy out of the Realm will not satisfy her lust for vengeance - she wants to pursue them across the ocean and burn their empire to ashes. To do so, she must place her faith in the Seventh Order: men and women who wield terrible powers, born of the Dark itself.

Vaelin Al Sorna would sacrifice his life for his queen - and may yet have to. Only by unmasking the Volarians' mysterious Ally can the tide of war be turned. To this end, Vaelin must travel deep into the icebound north, in search of a man who cannot die - and he must do it without the aid of his blood song, which has fallen ominously silent . . .

Thoroughly enjoyed the series. It's a rare thing to come across a trilogy in the fantasy genre. Generally you come across so many books that are massive series of stretched out material or trilogies that don't satisfactorily end but instead leave an open end so that their characters can move on and live in the world and tens of books can be written.

The whole series is well written with an interesting world. It feels like it moves to a slightly quick and anticlimactic end in this book but still manages to have excellent pacing and wrap everything up in a satisfying manner.

Steven brand is an excellent narrator and I can find no fault with the audio of the book.

One flaw, which was entirely my own, was that it had been some time since I had read the previous books. As such I found it a little tough to get my bearings and remember the names of Al the characters. So my advice is to not leave it too long in between the books.

Overall I would highly recommend this book and the entire series.

A fitting end to a rare occurrence

Totally gripping story, well written and well read, you can't help but get involved with the characters and stay hooked right up to the end. Bravo more please... ;0)

These three books are a very clever trilogy and if made into film I'm sure would be very successful. But what spoils it for me is the narrator who makes no effort to alter his voice between the many characters. It just makes it so difficult to follow who is actually speaking and therefore really spolit my enjoyment of the books.

Confusing narration
