About this listen

Rosie Maldonne is outspoken and sexy. She's also unemployed, and, with three children and a cat, life is a little tough. The four of them - well, five, if you count the cat - live in the South of France, in a run-down trailer near a vacant lot. They make do, living off her part-time waitressing job and a little help from the state.

Rosie thinks things are finally turning around when she meets handsome police officer Jérôme - until she realizes that his appearance coincides with her friend Véro's disappearance. Then, something even stranger happens: Rosie finds a package with a crazy amount of money in the trash can of a fast-food joint. With so much going on, Rosie has some big questions: Where is Véro? Is Jérôme too good to be true? Who put all that cash in the trash? And what happens when they want it back?

What disappointed you about Queen of the Trailer Park?

What was the point of setting the story in the South of France, it may as well have been Detroit, for all the Frenchness observed? The translation into 'American' rather than English was a struggle for me, particularly the weird references to the British Monarchy, British culture and the misinterpretation of song lyrics. And there was no trailer park. I was hoping for Stephanie Plum on the Cote d'Azur with loads of French atmosphere alongside the quirky characters and humour, no such luck. The characters here were just annoying, all of them, particularly the lisping daughter.

Has Queen of the Trailer Park put you off other books in this genre?

No, Janet Evanovich is ace

What didn’t you like about Carly Robins’s performance?

Way too strident for me

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Queen of the Trailer Park?

The ridiculous section about the Queen

Any additional comments?

Could have been good, maybe it came across better in the original French version? I some how doubt it though.

A strange one.....
