Summary

Triumph and tragedy, love and loss, murder and malice in the lives of five fifteenth-century queens

The fifteenth century was a turbulent age: the Hundred Years War between England and France, and the Wars of the Roses dominated the lives of people both inside and out of the royal courts.

Joan of Navarre, Katherine of Valois, Margaret of Anjou, Elizabeth Wydeville and Anne Neville were the queens who stood by England's sovereigns, caught up in wars that changed the course of their lives, and the course of history.

They were also formidable women who defied the limitations of their times, often living out the brutal consequences of their determination.

Alison Weir uncovers their stories in this final volume of her ground-breaking series on the queens of medieval England. Queens at War is a stunning culmination of research by a historian at the full extent of her powers and gripping account of five women on the throne.

Allison Weir's writing is always so beautifully descriptive with her historical biographies which makes her books so much more easier to read than a lot of other historical authors who fail to engage me as a reader. They can be so boring as I'm finding myself just not taking anything in which is so annoying.

This genre is difficult enough to get through so i love how Allison gives us that unique style which is all to do with her descriptive writing skills. It allows for a beautiful flow.

I adored her Queen Of Sorrows and Isabella Of France books.

So much to learn from this 4 part Medieval Queens series all as excellent as each other!

Beautifully Descriptive!

I found it very off putting and difficult to listen to it

uncertain about the other review which critiques the sound quality, I had absolutely no concerns with this. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series by Alison Weir and highly recommend for anyone looking for royal histories from a feminist perspective, something often easily overlooked in history books. I have been inspired to pursue further reading on some of the women covered in these books.

excellent conclusion to this series
