Space opera's sharpest mind returns to the world of the Imperial Radch in this brilliant standalone from
award-winning author Ann Leckie.

The Temporal Location of the Radiant Star has always been a source of both conflict and hope for the people of Ooioiaa. However, the imperial Radch see it only as an inconvenience, an antiquated religious site soon to be absorbed into their own, superior culture. But local politics is complicated, and the Radch have made one last concession: One last man will be allowed to join the mummified bodies in the temporal location to become a "living saint".

But this one decision will ripple out to affect every part of the city. Amidst a slowly worsening food shortage, riots, and a communication blackout from the rest of the Radch Empire, a religious savant will entertain visions of his own sainthood, a socialite will discover zer comfortable life upended, and a young man sold into servitude will find unlikely escape.©2026 Ann Leckie (P)2026 Little, Brown Book Group Limited

Hearing Adjoa Andoh narrate this was a huge pleasure - she's a fantastic actress and brings every character to life. She is wonderfully suited to Leckie's transgressive, thought provoking and socially complex prose.

This is an excellent standalone work in the same setting as Ancillary Justice - absolutely comprehensible and entertaining if you haven't read the others, though perhaps more fun with the cultural context from the other works in the setting. It combines some fascinating fictional theology and politics with an Austen-style comedy of manners set in high society on a frozen transient planetoid, at the moment of a crisis of colonisation and religion.

Great listening and has inspired me to go back and read the other books again!

Great performance from an amazing actress

forgive me for not saying much here, i do not wish to spoil a single thing so must be careful
But this has been a genuine pleasure to listen to, as with all their previous works. the world is built slowly and revealed steadily, the characters are expanded upon in a similar fashion and it all works to keep you engaged, especially in what I can only describe as the greek-tragedy esque reveal of what's going on and will happen, as well as the keys to the resolution of some of the events, while others remain a mystery that leaves you guessing till the last. A genuienly lovely listen that I have enjoyed every moment of, Adjoa Andoh is a brilliant reader as ever, and Anne Lecke a fantastic writer as always, I highly recommend both this book, and all their subsequent works, especially Ancillary Justice, Sword and Mercy.

as always a lively and lovely listen

Loved this. Another absolute cracking novel. All the more enjoyable because of the superlative skill of narrator, Adjoa Andoh.

Another great Leckie book!

I really love the Ancillary series, but this one 'irked' me more and more. This story could have been much shorter, more to the point, more inline with the first two books.

Very little 'happens' in this book, but there is a lot of exposition, we 'learn' a lot about the context or thoughts of characters, the reader is not 'allowed' to make there own mind.

There also is not really a main character in this story, which does not have to be a problem, but here does not help matters at all.

There seems also to be a 'narrator' sometimes, but it is not clear always clear when 'they' are narrating, and when actual events happen, let alone if the narrator is truly a neutral party.

Could really have done with some better editing
