I recently listened to "Raised Bed Gardening for Beginners: Simple Steps to Constructing a Container and Planting All Year Round" by Isabel Mills. This book is an incredibly useful guide for people starting out in raised bed gardening. Not only does she explain what raised bed gardening is and the many benefits of using it, she also provides easy-to-follow step-by-step instructions on how to build one, as well as planting basics, companion planting, compost, living soil, mulch, and fertilizer. You'll also learn how to deal with common diseases and pests that can arise in your garden. There's lots of great information like when to pick peas, how to cut peas, and lots of tips and tricks she provides information on tubers and alliums and many other items that you may choose to grow, telling you when to pick them and how long they will take to harvest depending on when they were planted. For example, harvesting garlic takes 32 weeks or more. Along with harvesting, she talks about how to preserve the fruits of their labor so nothing goes to waste i.e. canning, dehyrdatring, drying, and pickling. Tons of great info!!

I am currently looking for a house to buy and the garden is almost the first thing I go to see during a viewing because I am looking forward to owning my own and working on it myself. I've never owned my own garden before! Which also means I don't know anything about gardening unfortunately. But this book goes through the ins and outs of raised bed gardening (which I think would be a great option for my future garden) from beginning to end. It defined all of the gardening words really well as it progresses through the book, so you are never left feeling confused or exhausted with the content.
I gave 4 stars for the narration only because I live in England so the strong American accent is a little bit much for me sometimes but that's mostly a me problem! The narrator did an excellent job :)

This book is so fun! I love this book because there are many stories and fun openings to each chapter (like poems!) to make the listening experience more engaging. As the title suggests, the information is very helpful for a new beginner to start raised bed gardening. There is a lot of flexibility in the information so you can adjust the instructions to fit your needs and the space you have. The author also shows a lot of compassion to encourage you to keep going even if you make mistakes. I am also very happy there is a chapter on pests because that's the biggest challenge for beginners and even seasoned gardeners. There is also a bonus chapter on Hugelkultur which is something I have never heard of before. This is something different from other raised bed books I've read so I'm glad I learned something new!
