About this listen

A Warhammer 40,000 Novel

Night has fallen on the prison world of Zartak. Renegades from the Imperium's dawn stalk the complex, delivering pain and death. Yet something just as dangerous awaits them: the brutal, predatory, but ultimately loyal Space Marine Chapter known as the Carcharodons.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

It's a gripping tale, as stalking Night Lords face the Imperium's most predatory Space Marines in a darkened prison – with wardens and convicts caught in the middle.

THE STORY

On the prison world of Zartak, darkness has fallen on arbitrators and inmates alike. The Night Lords have come, bringing with them the shadow of fear and pain. But these monsters are not the only ones with an interest in Zartak. From the void, running on silent, another fleet emerges.

These Space Marine warriors are grey-clad and white-faced, and their eyes are as black as the Outer Dark – the savage Carcharodon Astra. As two packs of ancient, merciless predators stalk the shadows of the prison colony, both seeking a single young inmate with unnatural talents, the corridors run red, and both factions will have to fight tooth and claw to leave Zartak alive.

Title comment says it all. I enjoyed this book and the narration. look forward to reading or listening to work by this author and the narrator again.

Good story, well paced. Excellent narration. I would be happy to listen to him narrate more WH40k books.

This is such a well done book I think that the story itself is very good and compelling and although quite straightforward in its plot and premise. It shows a very interesting angle on a chapter. I didn’t know much about before reading this.

I just really enjoyed it and I think that someone is interested in learning about this chapter will really get a lot out of it for sure. Well read. Well written. And certainly a new favourite.

A new favourite

I signed up to audible specifically to start listening to 40k books. Many are difficult to find physically and because of that struggle to find this book and book 2 in this series I decided to give audible a shot.

Red Tithe was a book a almost decided to pick up back in 2017. I love 40k but I wasn't a Black Library reader at the time. Carcharodons is one of my all time favourite Space Marine chapters and I decided finally I needed to know what happened in these books. Red Tithe did not disappoint, it was just a satisfying listen, each of the different characters stories and unique perspectives are interesting and the words used to describe the ocean predator vibes was on point, it was deliciously on the nose in a very 40k way. I wasn't expecting the story to have Arbatrators in, so that was a pleasant surprise since I just jumped straight in with out reading the blurb.

Needless to say I am left with that feeling I should have read this nine years ago but better late than never I suppose 😂 . On to The Outer Dark!

First ever audiobook and it was excellent 👍

I've been waiting for this to become available here, and the wait was well worth it. Only issue is that there are times where the narration swaps between characters without a gap or pause so there was a few times I had to skip back a bit to figure out where the swap occurred.

The story is okay, but ends with a bit of a whimper. It is good at exploring both the Night Lords and the Space Sharks. The narrator elevates the story though. He is excellent
