IT'S NOT GAME OVER UNTIL THE GAME'S OVER!

Someday, the hero Mazel will battle the Demon Lord with the fate of the realm at stake. But until that day...he better be carrying plenty of potions! While the hero is off saving the kingdom, it's up to Lord Werner—a Japanese office worker reincarnated into the world of a classic RPG—to keep the rest of the world from becoming collateral damage. There's no hero, luminary, or warrior of light who doesn't need a friend like Werner! But can he truly defy the flames of fate and change the bittersweet ending of the game?

... but a welcome one. I expected something much less polished, seeing how some of those light novels can go, but this one was definitely well thought out. Knowing how many similar stories there are, I can honestly say it is not anything groundbreaking, but it is still well executed, especially the battles. I gave only 4 stars for the story, mainly because of the overly extensive info dumps, nothing more.

A surprise, to be sure...

Don’t be fooled by conventional tropes here, the nominal hero is essentially a background character to this nobility-focused military story. The mc is well written and relatable and the antagonist (outside the demons) are made out to be just following their own interests. I recommend trying this one and I’ll follow the series to see where it’s going.

Interesting concept and good execution
