Summary

She finally has him. Now she just has to keep him.

Ethan Harper made his choice. He picked the girls—both of them—over everything he'd built. That includes his career, his reputation, even his entire life in Neo Elysium. Now he's unchained, for better or worse, scraping by as a Diver in the city's underbelly while SlayerCorp's security drones close in overhead.

The plan is simple for now: lay low, stack credits, and get out before someone collects on the bounty hanging over their heads.

But nothing's really simple with Lily and Gloomy.

Their devotion hasn't wavered. If anything, it's intensified. Every threat to Ethan is a death sentence waiting to be carried out. Every stranger who gets too close is a problem begging to be solved. And in the shadows of the undercity, problems have a way of piling up fast.

Meanwhile, Gloria Lyle back at SlayerCorp hasn't forgotten about them.

Ethan thought escaping the corporate machine would give them freedom. It wasn't that simple.

really good story with great progression. the characters are well thought out and have substance. narration is amazing. only down to the story is theres no progression with powers and classes. you are what you are you cant get stronger unless you add hardware to body. I think a path of power progression would have been nice but overall great books.

great series

I really enjoyed the first book for its lower stakes, lighter tone, and genuine humor. Unfortunately, this sequel was a bit of a disappointment for me. It shifted heavily into a much more over-the-top, spicy style that feels very similar to her husband Virgil Knightley’s writing, which isn’t quite my taste. The erotic scenes often felt forced into moments where they didn’t naturally fit the story, and the frequent use of certain pet names (especially “baby”) became pretty repetitive and distracting after a while.
That said, the narrators are absolutely phenomenal, truly top-tier. Their performances were a joy to listen to and were honestly the main reason I finished the audiobook. If I had been reading the text version instead, I’m not sure I would have made it through.

The wife inherits the husband's trashy writing.
