Summary
Secret societies, serial killers, and a seriously snarky PI.
When Ginger Mitchell finds out her mother committed suicide, she packs up her life as a Vegas "dancer" (hey, somebody's gotta do it) and drives her cherry-red SUV straight home to Portland. Without a disapproving mom to rebel against, what was the point?
When she arrives back in her hometown, she finds a lot more going on than fancy food trucks and put-a-bird-on-it hipsters.
Murders are being passed off as suicides. College-aged women keep going missing. And then there's the troubling spate of mobsters who keep inviting her out to eat.
With a pile of cash saved from her last job and no one around to tell her not to, Ginger decides to become a private investigator, to find out exactly what's gone wrong in the City of Roses. First up: Her mother's "suicide."
Includes the first six novellas in the Roseland series, Home Is Where the Start Is, The Ruth Is Out There, The Body in the Pool, Amber Alert, Jane Dead, Welcome to Roseland.

The narrator had a couple of habits which really badly detracted. The pitch of her voice is quite grating but that can’t be helped I guess. The worst aspect was her incredibly irritating emphasis for every single “he said”, “she said”, “I said”, “he replied”, “I asked”. She always but always says those with a weird emphasis and sing song voice which makes it the most important aspect of every dialogue/conversation. For example: “… I felt sick. “Let’s go”,….. I, SAID!” It was annoying the first few times but by the end of the book it was beyond grating but is probably quickly dealt with if someone pointed it out to the narrator.
I also didn’t really like the voice she did for Ginger, it was at a pitch that was incredibly difficult to listen to and went right through my brain, even if you turn the volume right down it was headache inducing.
I’ll definitely get the second book, if there is one, but would love it if there was a different narrator. If it’s the same one then I’ll likely just get the kindle version or paperback.
Great story, narrator spoiled it for me
