Rosemary Woodhouse and her struggling-actor husband, Guy, move into the Bramford, an old New York City apartment building with an ominous reputation and only elderly residents.

Neighbours Roman and Minnie Castavet soon come nosing around to welcome them; despite Rosemary's reservations about their eccentricity and the weird noises that she keeps hearing, her husband starts spending time with them.

Shortly after Guy lands a plum Broadway role, Rosemary becomes pregnant, and the Castavets start taking a special interest in her welfare. As the sickened Rosemary becomes increasingly isolated, she begins to suspect that the Castavets' circle is not what it seems.

Rosemary’s Baby is one of my favourite all time films and I was really happy to find that the dialogue of the movie is very much true to original novel. Edgy and pretty daring for the 1960’s , Ira Levin’s writing flows along nicely. One annoyance though….well, two….the narrator’s ‘Rosemary’ voice is very high pitched and irritating, and her pronunciation of Sapirstein grated every time she said it 😬
A good listen, all in all though.

For once, the film version is better than the novel, but still worth a listen.

Not scary as I was led to believe, it was predictable and pretty silly! But the recording was good, I didn't find Rosemary's voice annoying unlike other listeners.

This book is definitely in my top 10. An absolute classic. I’ve seen the movie several times, and the book did not disappoint.

Quite predictable, but I enjoyed it. The ending was really dragged. Enjoyed the descriptions though.

Ira Levin was such a clear writer of singular imagination. The plot is wonderfully realistic while also being outlandishly absurd. Katherine Fenton’s voice work on the recording is sublimely brilliant. Her ability to switch flawlessly between English RP, New York and Mid-West American accents is impressive and makes for a wonderfully immersive experience.
