Summary

For Veronica Clayton, the sudden death of her mother has turned her naturally bright and happy-go-lucky view of the world bleak. As the police protection officer for the queen’s children, she has purpose, but for the next six months, the queen’s family is the focus of a documentary on royal life. The last thing Clay wants is a camera pointed in her face.

Katya Kovach, a refugee to Britain, knows all about death and grief. She saw her family shot in front of her and has never recovered from those dark memories. Now trained at London’s most prestigious childcare school, she’s happy as the nanny to Queen Georgina and Queen Bea’s children.

Clay is usually good-natured, but the rule-oriented Katya is not only a pain, but annoyingly beautiful, and they find themselves facing the awkward reality that everyone else is a couple except them while their every move is being filmed. Loss has defined both their lives, but guarding their hearts may prove to be the biggest heartbreak of all.

The narrator was terrible, I only persevered because I had listened to the books in the series. Her accents were dreadful and her pronunciation was actually funny. An American trying to do posh British accents but ending up sounding half cockney. Dropping the “h” in words or what sounding like pronouncing an A as O so we have colm instead of calm or ‘orse in stead of horse and many more. Some even made me laugh out loud. The staff that should have had plain British accents also had posh accents and it made the story feel wrong. If Nicola Victoria Vincent had narrated this book too if would have got 4 stars from me. She did a couple of the others so there was continuity with the characters. She makes them “real” in my head.

The narrator

Whoever decided to use an American actor for a book by Scottish author and set in the UK should be shot. I love Jenny Frames stories and the narration on this one ruined it for me

Awful accents

Having an American read the story about the British royal family was not a good idea! Americans do not do good British accents! Previous books in the series had a British narrator who did an excellent job on the various regional accents. Why change a good thing?

Excellent story but poor choice of narrator

Why would you employ an American narrator for a book with English characters? Cammie's Scottish brogue sounds Punjabi or something. It's a real pity because this series has been pretty enjoyable prior to this. Think about it in future!
