About this listen

“A respected Special Forces combat veteran of the top-secret MACV-SOG, Dale Hanson draws upon his first-hand knowledge to write with an intensity only possible by a warrior who equally knows how to wield a pen. Well written and thoroughly engaging, it’s an excellent read.” —Maj. John Plaster, Ret., Special Forces, SOG warrior and author

“I have read many books written by my fellow SOG veterans, but Dale Hanson’s style is unique, taking the reader into the reality of a SOG operator and the circumstances of SOG missions while not losing sight of the humanity of those involved. A SOG recon veteran, Dale has the experience and authority to give authenticity to his writing. SOG: Missions to the Well, is even more gripping and compelling than his previous book, Born Twice. Dale’s newest effort has encapsulated our world of cross border missions and the teams that ran them and written them for readers to experience. Hard to put down, this book is full of irony, compassion, patriotism, dedication, dark humor and- of course- the warrior ethos., It reads like fiction but, as has been said, ‘you can’t make this stuff up!’ Highly recommended.” —John Padgett MAJ (Ret), USSF Medical NCOIC Kontum 1970-71

These accounts of life in service of the Studies and Observations Group, Vietnam (SOG) lay bare the utmost professionalism and dedication in which these soldiers served their country but also the same must be said for the soldiers of the North Vietnamese Army. The harrowing accounts of day to day life and death and the struggle to survive keep the listener on the edge of their seat, whilst the sadness and true bond of brothers in arms with not only with their fellow Americans but with their indigenous comrades reminds the listener of the humanity and compassion that is part of war.

Having read and listened to numerous books about SOG I can honestly say that this ranks amongst the very best.
